Please buy more US nameplate cars, so that I can sell my suburban Detroit home and move the hell out of Michigan.

AN is right. Here's some food for thought that most people don't know, and AN I'm sure could verify this. Every person that works at the GM plant is an Autoworker's union member. The key word being "every". The janitor that works for GM and cleans the pisser (per Michael Savage) get (iirc) around $65,xxx.xx a year.
I know a girl that started at GM for $11.xx an hour putting together Caddy's and Vette's, at entry level with zero experience she got $11 an hour. This job is highly sought after and hard to get. If you know anything about running a business, you realize one basic fact here - THE PERSON IS OVERPAID! A smart business owner pays the smallest amount possible to get a qualified *** in the chair.
The Union is killing GM and has pretty much already killed Ford. This is why GM outsources to Mexico. I heard it on Quinn and Rose (radio show here in Pittsburgh) that there's actually a person at some/all GM plants that handles the special orders, where his job is literally to put stickers on the special orders and tell the other employees that there is a special order. I don't remember the figure they said he makes, but it was a lot.
Hearing people complain about George Bush and about GM and Ford outsourcing makes me sick! You did it to yourself! A highschool student can bolt a bumper to a car! A high school student can push the button that makes the machine line up the car doors. A high school student can slap on a special order sticker. No one at a GM plant could ever get a non-union job anywhere else that would pay them the same amount. The reason why, is because THEY AREN'T WORTH THAT MUCH! A raise in the minimum wage is the same thing. We're going to pay people that don't know how to do ****, to do the shittiest jobs we have available. Does this money fall from the sky? We should make it the law that everyone gets $100 an hour, then all our problems will be solved! ******* idiots.

P.S. I own a GM and wouldn't buy anything else, but their employees that continue to join the union make me sick. I feel bad for the company.

I happen to work for gm, and.. I'm sorry to tell you that, buying "american nameplate cars" is not necessarily the best way to support america.
The fact is, the honda accord is more american than a chevrolet malibu.
GM may be an american based company, but they pay FOREIGNERS to build the cars, design the parts, etc.
Which is more important? Investing in a company that EMPLOYS AMERICAN LABORERS (such as honda, with the american workforce who builds and american salesmen) or buy paying a company to make profit off a korean built car like the aveo (check the vin number on one - it's a daewoo.. sorry)
More dollars go to america buying an accord than a ford f-150
Of course, I own a german engineered car, with italian body design, that uses parts that were manufactured in czechoslovakian, then shipped to mexico for actual assembly.

Most American cars are back to being competitive with foreign cars as far as quality, especially most of the new models. Some of the old models recently replaced by new models unfortunately were not upgraded as they were phased out. The main advantage of buying American is that for some reason foriegn cars are always more expensive to repair especially body work.
I've got 311,000 miles on my 1992 Mercury Sable and most of it is original parts including original stainless exhaust and timing chain(which I admit should have changed by now)
Last month the water pumps went on my Merc and my girl friend's Camry(with 97K) my car cost under $200 to repair and hers almost $600 and she was told she was lucky the timing belt lasted that long which was part her repairs.

LOL, well, make them better, and I might consider it. My Ford's crapped out, and my Dodge doesn't even ride smooth, and my supposedly new van has 2 recalls and its only a year old.
