My Diabetes nurse told me that 4 oz is comparably the size of a deck of cards.

I had to buy an electric food scale to make sure.

1/4 pound (there are 16 ounces in a pound) but that's not a good portion should be more like 8 or 6 oz, convert to metric and you won't have conversion problems

I've heard the deck of cards thing, too. If you're serving veggies, they say a good serving (about a cup of most veggies) is about the size of a lightbulb. I love these non-scientific measurements for those of us who don't have a kitchen scale.
