There are people in the Military that are responsible for recruiting men and women for the Armed Forces. I applaud them for spending the Tax Payers money wisely. What other media of advertisement could produce more bang for the bucks. The people they are looking for are more likely watching MTV and VMA than Wheel of Fortune. I sense that you think 18 year old people are not mature enough to make informative decisions for themselves. If that be the case then we should not allow them to enter in to any kind of legal contract.

SO WHAT! IT IS NOT LIKE THEY ARE POINTING A GUN AT OUR HEADS. I am 19 by the way, just out of high school last year.

(I'm not trying to be rude, so I going to respect your wishes. If I offended you, I apologize.)
I mean, companies target little kids, high on sugar breakfast cereals, why not the military can target 18 year old. At the end It is us that makes the decisions.
update: I am sorry for your great lost. I 'm sorry for all the lost on our side of the war, any war.

Infantryman here!
I don't see anything wrong with the military running commercials over televisions. I mean, what's so wrong about it? Any kind of advertisement is meant for exposure. It does not force you to do something you don't want to do. They only let you know whats around, whats available, you make the choices.
Just because you're in the military doesn't mean that you'll be a bullet sponge. YOU CHOOSE what you want to do and go even!

I think they should advertise for things other than signing bonuses.
Why does it disturb you? Everybody advertises for their target audience. The military can do wonders for anyone. I have seen it work its magic.
I am amazed at the lack of patriotism in today's youth.

don't watch it the MTV VMA, but I see plenty of Army/Air Force/Nany/Marine Corp/National Guard/Air Nat Guard/Coast Guard/etc commericals, doesn't bother me, if the military thinks its the best way to recruit, more power to'em

Retired Army, been to Iraq 3 times, what disturbs me and all who served before me is people like yourself who claim to be Americans...
I'm sorry for your loss. I've dealt with loss of friends too many times during my 20 years of service. It's an individuals decision to choose service, disrespecting their decision is your right also...

but commercials for rubbers, viagra and other self asorbed items is okay?!
1) the army is paying for the ads
2) freedom of speech/press
3) without those people in the army and military branches you (and I) wouldn't be on this board asnwering and asking questions let alone in English!
(i'm very sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. please know he will be remembered as one of the reasons for #3 and I thank him & his family immensly for all that ya'll sacrificed for me.)

welcome to the real world.....18 years are fresh meat....companies cant wait to get their hands on you...that includes the military.
notice in the ads the soldiers are either snipers or support, you dont see them on the front lines eating lead, which is where the majority of recruits end up.
make it glamorous and the kids buy it.
