I love that picture that you brought up, about running down the aisle at church. That is so joyous and I'm so happy for you.
It wasn't like that for me; I was taken to church as a child, and believed that Jesus was God's son, who died on a cross and rose again, but that was about it, I didn't know much more. Fast forward, to when I'm 45 years old. Someone brings me to a good bible teaching church. I begin studying the bible.
I'm now 55 and Jesus and the Word of God have transformed my life. Although I can't point to one moment in time, somewhere in the last ten incredible years, I was "born again".

Monday night in September 1983, Rm 205, Mac Hall.
One thing that nobody can dispute is the salvation experience. And it is not about what you feel, but what God said.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
It doesn't say hope, guess, pray, wonder, but "know".
Yes, God so loved the world, (past tense) and he put it all into a bloody cross at Calvary. God loves those who love his Son.
He that believeth on the Son of God hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
The unsaved sinner is dead in trespass and sin, under the wrath of God, sitting on death row awaiting execution. The pardon has been bought and fully paid for and freely available to any poor dying sinner who wants it.
I was in first year University and alone in my room doing a math assignment and John knocked on my door, and after a few questions - Do you believe in God? Do you read the Bible? Do you pray? He then asked, Would you be interested in seeing a diagram of what the Bible says about eternal life?
Eternal life? Is there such a thing? I had heard it said, but I never thought it was for real. Does the Bible really say that, I thought? I was definitely curious.
John then opened a little New Testament and led me through the "Road through Romans". He had me read the verses myself and showed me that the Bible said I was a sinner and hopelessly separated from God. There was nothing I could do to reconcile myself to God, because sin was in the way. He showed me that the wages of sin is death and after death comes judgment. And judgment for sin is permanent destruction.
John showed me that I was dead in trespass and sin and I was on my way to hell and there was nothing I could do about it.
He then showed me that while I could not help myself, God took the initiative (I still remember his exact words), and put his only begotten Son on a cross to take my place and pay the price in full.
Then he showed me that to cross that bridge tonight was to simply "believe" on the name of the Son of God, and that my salvation would be final and permanent.
It really was that simple.
If you're reading this and you are not saved; if you are not 100% sure that you are definitely going to heaven when you die, then you need to get saved immediately. You don't know if you'll be alive tomorrow, or if you'll get to work in one piece tomorrow. And then it will be too late.
With things the way they are in the middle east right now, and with the church age drawing to a close, the rapture could seriously hit any moment now, and we Christians will be gone in the blink of an eye, leaving our clothes in piles on the floor. There is some thought that we'll even leave our blood behind. And then you'll be afraid, very afraid.
In Exodus 12, God told Moses and Aaron to have the Hebrew people choose a spotless male lamb and kill it and paint a picture of Calvary with its blood on their door frame: three marks of blood, one on each side and one in the middle at the top. There was no ten commandments, no tabernacle, just blood on the door posts - nothing else mattered. At the stroke of midnight, and not a second before, God struck dead the firstborn in every household in Egypt, except for those which had the blood on the doorposts.
We Christians are under the blood and our souls are guaranteed to be safe when we die. Nothing else matters. Are you under the blood? When you die the only question is whether or not there is blood on the doorposts of your soul. And if there is not then you will burn.

It's a minor issue of semantics but you didn't accept Christ. You RECEIVED him. Since you were dead in sin you had no power to accept. You could only receive the gift of life he gave you as a pitcher receives milk.
Anyway, I've been a Christian since childhood. Unfortunately, I don't have a really cool story of when I received His favor. I just have felt my faith blossom and grow as I continued to study and grow in his word.
