I'm not a dog, there isn't a sign on my stomach that says, "pat me", or "rub me", yet I have a few relatives who seem to think that's what they need to do everytime they see me. It's a pet peeve of mine and I was hoping others have had to deal with this and can give me some good suggestions on how to nicely tell them to stop. I don't want to hurt their feelings because I know they're doing it because they think a pregnant tummy is cute; but it's soo irritating! Thanks. =)

This is my 3rd child, (my older ones are 10 and 8) and they didn't do this with the first two.

I would think my first remark after the touch would be something like: I don't think I've put my finger in your eye lately so why must you grab at my stomach?

Or simply say: I would rather you did not touch me in that manner.

I loved when people would look at how much my belly has grown. I loved for family to touch my belly. I encouraged it. I didn't really care for it , when some stranger came up to me and wouldn't get her hands off my belly. No matter what you say to them , its still going to hurt them. I had to tell my in laws to not kiss my baby on the lips ( this is a pet peeve of mine. ) and it started a HUGE argument. We didn't talk for about a month. They did it a couple of times after we started talking , I just tried to bite me tongue. It will drive you crazy if you do not tell them. I know that. Try telling them that you just can not stand anyone touching you right now. Explain that it bothers you , and makes you feel like you are a puppy. Just be nice and respectful. I hope you have better luck with this then I did.

I had the same problem. The only thing you can do is tell them, "I'd rather you not do that - it makes me uncomfortable" OR you can scream at them, "leave me the he** alone!" Because you are pregnant, they will blame it on hormones. You can get away with a lot of that kind of stuff when you're pregnant

Just tell them what you said here... That you appreciate that they are excited about the baby but them touching or patting your belly makes you uncomfortable.

As they reach for your tummy, just step back and tell them that you are sensitive right now and the tummy rubbing makes you nauseous.

Or you could just tell them hands off.

Your only pregnant for a while as long as it's not strangers and they only do it when they first see you why don't you just suck it up. Before you know it you won't be pregnant any longer and you'll wish you had the attention back on you.

I am going through the same thing with my in laws. My husband is understanding enough that he told them that it makes me uncomfortable and not to do it. Plus they aren't even touching the baby they are touching me. Good luck!!!

Pregnancy is a wonderful thing and everyone enjoys the pregnancy of others. It will be over with before you know it, so just hold out and let them enjoy the time being!!!

aw, lol. now that you are going to be a mommy, people will constantly be doing well-meaning but annoying things. they think its their right to "help". like your baby is public property. if something bugs you, just say so as lovingly as possible. thats all you can do. but also realize that people will now forever butt into your life as a mom
