Good idea to start gradually at first but there is nothing better than weight training. It builds muscle (very important after 40) & muscle really reshapes the body like nothing else can. Muscle also burns extra calories during everything you do.

For cardio (strengthening the heart & burning fat), I recommend brisk walking. A good workout program should include weight training at least 30 minutes 3 times a week & cardio up to 6 times a week.

The latest fitness info. suggests doing weight training 30 minutes 6 days a week...it depends how intensive your workout is. It's a good idea to join a gym & have them give you a training program to follow.

Being over 40 doesn't mean that you can't be in great shape. I'm almost 50, work out with weights at least 3 days a week & I'm in better shape than a lot of the teenagers at my gym...it works but...you MUST be consistant...make your workouts a priority & don't miss them...after about 2 months, you'll see & feel the payoff...Promise!
