It takes a lot of strenght to do it. I stopped when I started working at this office and felt ashamed of my fingers, I bit them for about 30 years

ever time you BIT Think this
Your fingernails have a couple of big jobs to do. They protect your fingertips and make it easier for you to pick up tiny things, like loose threads. They also come in handy when you have an itch that needs scratching.
But when you bite your nails, your nails aren't there to do those things. And by biting them, you are breaking the skin and maybe bringing germs into these openings in your skin. In fact, some people bite their nails and cuticles down so far, they bleed! When germs invade, you can get an infection.
Speaking of germs, there are germs under your fingernails, so when you bite them, those germs can go into your mouth. Think about all the icky stuff you touch all day long, like your baby sister's drool-dripping pacifier, your stinky gym socks, or slimy earthworms for your science project. You don't want those nasty germs getting in your mouth.
If you want to stop biting your nails, good for you! You can ask your mom or dad to buy you a special nail polish that makes your nails taste awful. This can help you learn to stop biting them. It also may help to keep your nails trimmed and looking good - so good you don't want to chomp on them!

I used to bite my nails. I don't even know how I stopped. I guess I just sort of fell into other habits, like tearing paper or anything else that's in my hand, or slapping paper in a strumming pattern. Haha.
Just catch yourself before you become bored, because most of the time you probably bite your nails when you're bored. Focus on something interesting if you catch yourself about to bite. Or use that nasty crap that you put on your nails, although that doesn't always work for everyone.

It is hard to stop biting your nails, just like many other bad habits. Just make up in your mind that you will not bite them no matter how tempting it is. With girls this could be easier because they could put some nail polish on. But boys well I am not sure, but mind over matter in this situation..

I got some clear nail polish, and chopped up some garlic cloves real fine...add it to the polish and put it on your nails at night. They taste bad and deter chewing, plus it makes nails stronger. After they dry overnight they dont smell like garlic, so people wont know you have it on your nails either.
Was a tip from a local manicurist friend. Good luck :)

Get some sort of bitter nail polish. I know avon sells it, you could probly find it online as well. So whenever you go to bite your nails it tastes like nastyness. Be strong.

I suggest that when you get ready to bite your nails think about something else to take your mind off it.
