Is it because they are too intelligent to give a correct answer to a question?

I'll have to admit that some- key word there: SOME- people who correct the spelling/grammar instead of answering the question do sound dumb.... but usually it's the asker's fault... (because they didn't make their question easily understood)
For my part, I mention the spelling/grammar in only three instances:
1) if the person learned English as a second language (often you can guess- correctly- from their previous questions and answers) and made an obvious error that interferes with the intelligibility of his question, I politely point out the error and give him a better alternative. They appreciate it anyway, so they can make themselves better understood in the future.
2) If the spelling and grammar is so bad that I can barely understand it, then I tell them to polish it up so we can get what they're saying. While I'm no stickler for this stuff, I do think that people SHOULD make their questions (and answers) clear and intelligible.
3) if it is a student asking for help on say, a report or a term paper. Then I tell them something like this: "If you want a good grade, you should use the spell check and make sure you use correct punctuation, things like that." cuz teachers are BIG on using correct spelling and grammar.
In all of these instances, I try to answer the question itself as well.

And I make sure to use good spelling and grammar myself, too.

I, myself, try never, to correct anyones spelling, even if I know it is spelled incorrectly. I am an editor, so it is a bit hard for me, but it just does not seem like the ethical thing to do. After all, the person wants help answering a question, they don't want help, correcting their spelling on a question..............p.s. I don't use spell checker most of the time either, and I make mistakes, unless I am working.........don't tell anyone.....

Why don't you rectify the problem by using correct spelling and grammar? Then everyone will be happy, and will be able to concentrate on answering the question, instead of being shocked by the misuse of the language.

Wouldn't the person asking the question be stupid for misspelling something? Why do you think they are stupid? What proof do you have to make that judgment? They want points and that's all. Pretty smart actually. I mean come on, there's even spell check on here.

first you say they are stupid and then say they are too intelligent to give a correct answer. Hmmmm... just something I noticed.
I think it is just the opposite. The LACK the intelligence to give a good or correct answer and all they can come up with is to criticize you.

It certainly isn't the stupid ones who are concerned with correct spelling and proper grammar.

I personally don't think they are stupid. If you're going to ask a question and expect to get a decent answer, it's always best to use proper grammar and spelling. When you do that people can actually understand what the hell it is your asking.

Why "do" people who answer questions by only CORRECTING the spelling and grammar of a question "seem" so STUPID?

That's a good question.

It is called false argument when the one who is hurt by the question and does not have an answer responds with criticism of the asker that does not and cannot answer the question.

Why are you being so kYnd toO hint at intelliJents when they are toEtally unintelligHent and ignorUnt?

My guess would be to many questions are so full of grammatical errors that the question itself is just to hard to even try and decipher to give a relevant answer.
