Not many people know this, But Priests are actually aloud to LIE in order to protect the church. Yes LIE!!! You and I go to court and swear on the bible to tell the truth, a priest can go into court, swear on the bible and still lie and the law is ok with that. How is this possible? With this law in place, it is no wonder so many priests get away with child molestation. Something most definately needs to be done about this! How can a priest think it is ok to Lie and cover up a child molester (just say thats the case) and that god will not care? Is it because they repent? How sorry can one truly be for doing something when they continue to lie and cover up?
Is anyone else absoutley gobsmacked by this?
I will say it again..BY LAW.Priests are aloud to LIE in order to protect the name of the church.
The fact is.. A church shouldnt need to be covered up..Priests shouldnt need to lie because they shouldnt be doing anything wrong..Catholic church is a SCAM a CULT and should burned

I know this is more of a statement.. but I am so mad at this.. Priests are supposed to be people you can trust.. How can you trust them when they are LEGALLY ALOUD TO LIE!!!! I dont even believe in god yet I still have to swear on the bible! They serve there life in the church and they LIE WHILST SWEARING ON THE BIBLE!!
This latest bit of news I have heard about religion has taken away all respect I have for it.. I didnt have much to begin with.. now I have ZERO RESPECT for it! There is no doubt in my mind now that it is a money making scam!

(quick fact.. Catholic church offered a child abuse victim by a priest $55,000 to keep quiet, the victim reluctently accepted and it was later found out that the catholic church had 117million in stock, assets etc.. 117million and they still ask you to donate your hard earned money! WAKE UP PEOPLE!

The big SUPRISE that I got from hearing this is the FACT that you and I weather or not we believe in god have to swear to tell the truth on the bible, yet a person of the church has free range to lie. that is the shock. It is common Knowledge that priests do lie, but I dont think its common knowledge that there is a law saying they can do so! PURGERY if we do it and possible jail time.. Sweet as if they do it!

Yes, in the early church after 3 hundred and something? BC, it was,and up to, and through the middle ages, called the doctrine of reserve. It was declared, that if a lie was to benefit the church in some way, then it was ok to lie. During those periods the Bible was not allowed in the homes of the common people. They called the common people "the dumb sheep". They claimed that the people could not interpret the Bible without errors, and therefore could only be interpreted by the church. Many of the priests taught lies, even when they, themselves knew them not to be true. All due to benefitting the church. It kept the people flowing into the church, mostly from fear. Marten Luther didn't get his hands on a Bible, until He was a grown man studying for the priesthood, himself. He used to sneak into the library late at night and read it by candlelight. After reading the Bible for the first time in his life, and seeing truths, He began to protest, hence, the protestants came about, after a long and dangerous struggle by Marten Luther. But remember, Marten carried a lot of the doctrines out of that church into the new. So, the next question is , did he unknowingly carrie a few lies with him? It was called the reformation. And since then, the Catholic church has done some reforming in their own church. All protestant churches came out of, should I say, the mother church. (Catholic) Now the biggest question of all is, are we still the dumb sheep? Thats why its very important for us to read and study the Bible. And dilligently search the scriptures. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly deviding the word of truth. 2 Ti. 2:15....Only then, can we discern the truth.

You have misinterpretted the Law. Priests are allowed to lie in church to protect those who have confided in them. It does not extend to their own crimes, and if they have committed said crimes they have a higher court to answer to anyway. These laws were passed so that people who in the past have commited crimes and want to get it off of thier chest can to a person they should be able to trust without fear of the government stepping in and forcing their priest to tell on them. By the way, things like child molestation, child abuse, and threat of current danger to other people or self are required to be reported and are not covered under this law. I dont know who your source is but they have either skewed things or you misread them. I am not attacking you just informing you.

As for the money scheme that you speak of, yes the catholic church as an entity has a lot of money, but the money that is asked for in most churches doesnt go to that organization, it goes to paying light bills, gas bills, paying honest ministers modest salaries, morgages on church buildings and other things like community out reach and even in some cases things like hurricane relief efforts and other humanitarian efforts.

Yes abuse does exist in this system, it is not perfect, but then neither are people in general. In fact there are no perfect people and say what you will about the church but that is just what it is. A place for unperfect people to go and find refuge. If you gave your money to a scam maybe you should have done some more research and seen where your money would have acctually gone to a good cause.

I'm afraid that you are mistaken. A priest can be charged with perjury for telling a lie in court. Also, all of the references you made were in regards to the Catholic Church. While the Catholic church may do some things that are good. They also do things that are clearly against the bible. Having priests for starters. A priest by definition is supposed to be the one who takes ones prayers to God for us. However the bible states very clearly that we can go to God directly in the name of Jesus. When Christ died on the cross the curtain in the temple was torn apart. The curtain was a symbol of our separation from God. We don't need priest. I just think people should know these types of things so that you do not deny God based on the errors of the Catholic church. There are many other churches that share your distaste for their apostasy.

I can only hope that GOD will give everyone the reward they earned. I take care of myself, and son/family.

Everyone else takes care of themselves, I can give advise, or suggestions - but I can't FORCE anyone to live like they should.

People that lie have to live with it, as best they can.

Also, why are you surprised at human corruption in organizations and institutions, even in holy institutions? As soon as a human can be hidden behind rules and paperwork, there's a larger chance of wrong doing. It's only 2006 (here) humans have a long way to go before we really have any advancement.

P.S.
Your question and rant would be much clearer, and you'd have more attention if you proof read your statements, (you spell checked OK.) before making them permanent
Also, not talking is part of the police and fire, and all gov. unions, as well as locker rooms and Las Vegas commercials - what else - oh, gangs, and most school yards. Were taught NOT to talk. Are you aware of any of this?

"You hate what you perceive the Catholic Faith to be, not the true Catholic Faith".

Define cult, do you even know the definition?
Emotional ramblings. Pick up your dictionary, please.

As far as burning Catholics...been there done that! Martyrs, we have plenty.

I know you are being led into the Catholic Faith. Lighten up and find out what the Catholic Church teaches, it is true. Try to disprove Catholicism from it source or from the Bible. Think John Cardinal Newman, Scott Hahn, etc...

Accept the Challenge.
I know I have and I am a Roman Catholic.
It is the One, Holy, Catholic Apostolic Church.
God Bless your journey.

There is no law in the United States allowing a priest, or anyone else, to lie about anything. One can refuse to incriminate himself. Now the Catholic Church is different. It has been known to "break" the law before. Unfortunately the Catholics (parishioners) do not hold the Church accountable for wrongdoing.

Priests, butchers, bakers, bankers, teachers, ANYONE who is human is at risk of error because of Man's free will - a big part of God's plan.

I think we should not question God's plan, but try to think about it from God's stand point and think about what would Jesus do. That's why the Lord sent us Jesus, to save us, to show us the way. It's bad people IN GENERAL, regardless of their actions - - sinners - - like the ones who agreed to have Him crucified have always been, and will be. The Bible tells us of these people.

I say pray for them that they see their ways and change.

One reason why I'm not Catholic. It's not fair. If Priests are so-called holy men, then they would tell the truth at all times and at all costs... especially if that's what they expect their flock to do. To me, Catholicism has a lot of flaws, and this is just one of the many. For the most part, the intentions of priests are good (I believe), but they cannot erase their deceitful history(that has effected the rules of Catholicism today) and the sins of their fellow holy men.

All religious organizations have a lot to hide. Now that some are beginning to understand that religious leaders are just people and not some Deity the truth is slowly coming to light. The religious leaders do have a lot to answer for. Religion was the law for a very long time and it will take a long time to finally make them answer for the harm they have done.
