I am having my wisdom teeth (all 4) pulled in 6 days, the oral surgeon has givin me a perscription for Amoxycillin or Rulide (an antibiotic) and Diclofenac and Panadeine Forte (painkillers). Can someone tell me if these are any good and strong (super strong)?? because others people have mentioned that they got perscribed Ibuprofen or Vicadin! Will the one my doc perscribed me work just as good or even better and if not what should i do?

Either one will work fine.. they wouldn't give U something that wouldn't help for pain, especially having all 4 wisdom teeth extracted.. trust me, both the pain killers you listed will work just fine.. not to worry.. just take them as soon as you get home, and lay down and when you wake up the numbness will be gone but your pain wont be there. take them as directed by your doctor though.. you'll be fine.. I had the same thing done. I got put to sleep with mine.

I'm a dentist.

I perform wisdom teeth extractions on a regular basis.

Diclofenac is an NSAID, and Panadeine Forte is basically Tylenol with Codeine.

Tylenol with Codeine, as far as I'm concerned, is weak. I write it for kids 13 and younger. I'm not very familiar with the efficacy of Diclofenac.

I usually write for a medication called Tylox, which is Tylenol with Oxycodone (like Percocet). It is stronger than Vicodin, which is Tylenol with Hydrocodone.

It is important to understand the reason why pain meds come packaged as narcotics with tylenol. Tylenol (and NSAIDS like Diclofenac) essentially works at the point of injury (i.e. the surgical site) and, I guess, attenuates transmission of the pain signal to your brain. Narcotics, on the other hand, work at the central nervous system, and attenuate your processing and perception of pain.

Hence, oxycodone with tylenol is a sort of double-whammy against pain.

Your oral surgeon has got ont part of the equation right, but didn't do much for your CNS perception of pain with merely codeine.

Amoxycillin is for infections and the others are pain killers and they should work just fine. You dont want Ibuprophen because you can buy it at the store but if whatever the doc. gives you is not strong enough then ask for something else!

what you are mentioning is an antibiotic for yourself, other names are pain killers. i am sure he will give something similar to vicodin if not the same for pain control, good luck
