Peanuts don't do too well in Ohio winters. They're actually native to South America, which explains why I don't have peanuts in my garden out back. I guess you could write a story about the first summer of peanut growing, before the characters figure out that peanuts are warm weather plants and hate cold.
But no one farms in Northern Ohio, at least not Northeast Ohio. Northeast Ohio is one giant city, spreading out east and west along the lake around Cleveland. The only farms that really exist are Northwest, in places like Sandusky. I stop and get excellent pumpkins and apples on my way back from Cedar Point every time I go there.
But yeah, no one grows peanuts here. We've got corn south of us and random apples and stuff west of us, but where all the people are (in Northeast Ohio) there aren't farms.
Think about it, farms don't grow next to bodies of water. Cities do. Northern Ohio has a rich history of trade and city type things because of Lake Erie. We don't farm here. We do ship the farm goods from south of us elsewhere. (Corn, by the way. That's what they grow south of here). But trade via the lake has really slowed nowadays because of a better national highway system (thank you WWII) and planes.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them. I know the area really well.

You should write a book not about farmers in Northern Ohio, but about the war we fought with Michigan over Toledo. Michigan lost, we got Toledo, and they were granted the Upper Peninsula as a conciliation prize. Lol, who really won that war?
