I just lost all of my self confidence. I lost a tennis match against a girl who is not very good. I feel like I am not good at anything. Please don't say something like "it will be ok", I know it helps most people, but I just don't feel good about myself at all. What should I do, I really need help!

Most of all, realize that people ake mistakes. What you must do is remember this, but also remember that at each next match you will do 2X better than the one before. No matter what, know that you are good at things.

Also, no one is born knowing how to play tennis. It takes much practice. And losing is part of a game.

agl 444,
I'm a tennis player myself and I think I can relate to how your feeling - though I'm alarmed that your self confidence is blown simply by blowing a few sets over tennis (maybe something else is going on the sides eh?)

Check this out, and the sooner you realize this the better, but your going to be going through highs and lows throughout the rest of your days. With regard to tennis, you'll have days where your opponent is going to wish that you didn't serve to them because they knew that you were throwing down aces all day long, other days your going to be sailing the ball over the lines time and time again and won't have a clue how to fix your stroke.

Does it suck losing to someone that you know you should have been able to beat? Sure. Does it mean that your good-for-nothing? Not a chance. The good always comes with the bad, and your in a little slump it seems - no worries.

When I have a lousy day on the courts I almost always take a drive and put all the windows down, regardless of the weather. I don't think about tennis, my service, or that lucky ace that punk nailed me with - I just think about how good it's going to feel when I meet that person on the court again, and I'm on my game. Get back to the courts when your ready and put in a little practice on the things bothered you about this match, once their fixed ask, ask innocently as you can, for a re-match. Volley up and drop the hammer :)

Take it easy out there!

Dear Friend,

Stop whining, start winning.
We generally give events more priority than they deserve. You lost a tennis match? Fix another one. Unless we are the best in something, one day we could lose, so it's not a big deal.
It would be a big deal, and you can call yourself a loser if you stop playing after this. If you continue, you will win. Twice winner. One, you win a match, second, you win over yourself.
Compete with other people only when you are in the game. Outside, please only concentrate on yourself, making yourself better.

One trick I have when I feel low is to count my past successes, especially the ones where the odds were against me. Then I feel better.

Now, the most important thing about this match you lost is not HOW YOU FEEL, but WHAT YOU LEARNT. This loss will help future victories.

Wishing you lots of successes, you winner.

Love All,
Ashok

Don't panic just because you lost a tennis match to a girl. You say that you feel like you are good at nothing. There has to be something that you are good at. You shouldn't feel bad about yourself over a tennis match. Maybe you should practice more and maybe it will help you out with your next match.

I always thought i could do anything but then i was defeated by a girl in the 200 that wasn't good at all. I was torn apart and i felt like i let everyone down, my coach, my friends, my team and my family. But you know, i used it too my advantage. It made me angrier and more aggressive where i worked my way to the top by stressing working out, and practice. I now beat her and i am a health trainer. All this tells you is too work harder and strength it up. You can be the best you want to be, all you got to do is work your way to the top. You will get there. Cry it out then get back on that court and be a winner, show what your really made of. You can do it. Just remember that this is only for you, and you should never feel like you let others down. Play tennis cause you love it, not because others want you too. Do it for yourself.

Concentrate on what you did wrong to let a lesser skilled person beat you in the match but don't let it beat your confidence. We all have our bad days where we think we are really good at something and someone catches us sleeping and exploits that weakness in order to defeat us. We all grow from defeat otherwise you would not have made it so far in tennis. Ask for a rematch but in good sportsmanship and if you win or lose it doesn't matter. It's just a game.

If you compete, you will lose. Tiger Woods is, without a doubt, the best golfer today. But even Tiger lost 2 of the 4 Major tournaments this year.

Don't waste too much time feeling depressed or feeling sorry for yourself. If you're serious about tennis, figure out why you lost and make improvements.

Be positive and keep your chin up.

Unless you are planning a career in tennis, it shouldn't be a life changing moment. You won't look back on it when you are raising your kids in suburbia and think, "By golly, If I had just one that tennis match back in '06 then everything would be perfect." Learn something else. I suck at sports so my hobby is cooking- everybody's got to eat. (I moved into health food so I wouldn't be a biggie cook). Eventually you will find something that calls to you.

Buy a couple of dumbbells from a store.
Twice a day, exercise with the dumbbells.
This will tighten up your muscles,
push your endorphins up,
force your brain to be more focused,
and boost your self-esteem better than any words of advice.
And with your better focus, stronger arms, you can go back and have another match and this time beat that girl, good!!
