There is nothing in the above question that refers to the DaVinci Code, so, why is this included in so many answers? I am asking a question to gather other's ideas, opinions and feelings.

There isn't one shred of evidence—not one—to support this idea.
Nowhere in the Bible (or in any other Christian writing after Jesus' ministry) is there any hint at all that Jesus was married. For example, His closest relatives and disciples came together at the cross as He was dying—but no wife is mentioned, as she would have been if He had been married. Jesus' sole concern then was for the welfare of His mother (see John 19:26-27).

This isn't to say that Jesus disapproved of marriage—not at all. In fact, His first miracle took place at a wedding, to which He had been invited with His mother and some of His disciples (see John 2:1-11). God gave marriage to us, and Jesus spoke often about the joys and responsibilities of marriage. Most of the earliest disciples were married, including Peter (whose mother-in-law was healed by Jesus—Mark 1:30).

Jesus came into the world for one reason: to die for our sins on the cross. Don't be misled by myths that might turn you away from that great truth. Instead, make sure of your commitment to Him, for "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree (cross), so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness" (1 Peter 2:24).

I often wonder the same thing. So what if Jesus had been married. To me I would think it should show Christians that he is not only a Godly figure, but also a true person. So by saying that if Jesus was married, it changes how we perceive him.. doesn't that say that marriage is wrong somehow? I think Jesus was married. And so what! I'm not a Christian anymore, but even if I was, why should it matter if he were married? People are so closed minded.

Jesus was not married therefore his message is not diminished. To asssert that he married Mary Magdelene is without scripture to back it up and is therefore purely conjecture. Although many women had significance in the bible, none was revered over the others, much like the apostles. No one said paul was the first poepe and therefore the papal dispensations are legitamite and ordained through Christ.

A lot of Christians are gonna be maaaaaaaaad at me for this... but the truth is the truth and I'm gonna share it...

IF Jesus was married (and I'm not saying he was), that would not diminish his message at all... in fact, it would intensify it....

Jesus, as God, wrapped in human flesh (born of a virgin... you know, that old chestnut)... came to earth to save us... but let's be honest... it's difficult at best to save someone if you don't fully understand the danger they are in....

it's easy to understand the need to save someone who is drowning because you understand the mortality fo the individual... you understand that human beings can only stay underwater so long before water gets into their lungs, which is (to say the least) bad.

But God is not human and so does not suffer our mortal constraints. As a human, Jesus could experience everything we experience... temptations, pain, sorrow, joy, anger... so is it really so outlandish to think that he would want to experience love and family and (heaven forbid) fatherhood???

Notice Jesus, in ALL his messages never said don't have sex, don't get married and don't procreate... in fact the Bible is full of examples where God actually ENCOURAGES family... probably the most famous being his edict to Adam and Eve: Be Fruitful and Multiply.

Consider for a moment how many matters of biological functions are not recorded in the Bible and being attributed to Jesus. Sure we've seen that he sleeps and walks (he must have been in great shape) and we also see that he eats but we never hear tell of him relieving himself (after all... bread and fish can only stay in your system for so long before you have to make room for something else and it is terribly illogical to think that his human corporeal form would just cause these waste products to disappear... especially when there was already a mechanism in place to accomodate the process).

No, IF Jesus had a wife and children, that would only serve to make his human experience more complete... and thereby our salvation.

In my mind it doesn'ts matter to me. but it would be a huge cover up.

Some Christians freek out about this.
My faith is strong enough to deal with things I don' t know for sure.
I think the book The Divencie Code has upset many people when it is just a fictrional book.

I am sure Mankind has complicated the simple message that Christ brought to us.

I don't believe He was married, but even if He were, the Lord encouraged a man and a woman to become united in marriage. How would it "diminish" His message at all? He still shared the Word of the Lord with others and showed us all how to love each other.

Although it probably isn't true, given how much influence the ascetic Essenes had on his theology, it really wouldn't change Jesus's message at all if some difinitive evidence was found that he was married. It would undermine some sects' messages regarding male superiority however--a much bigger no-no in their eyes!

It would diminish His message only because it has never been recorded or represented. I would assume something was attempted to be hidden from us.

there is no evidence for this being presented as a fact. Lot's of presumption to get this idea.

Because his purpose wasn't to enjoy the pleasures of life, but to atone for peoples' sins through his suffering. People like those who believe in the da vinci code make this out to be an issue of feminism and sexism, but it's really not.

It makes you think: Wow, if they left that part out of the bible, what else might be wrong with it.

By the way, the Da Vinci code is a horrible, horrible book (strictly for literary reasons).
