can you safely stack above the cab roof? is the weight of the hay prohibitive with respect to the trucks rating?

While you might get 20 bales in a 1/2 ton pickup, you'll be WAY over gross weight. Most 1/2 ton pickups will max out weight-wise at less than 10.

Booster springs don't actually increase the total carrying capacity since the axles and tires factor into the max loading, not just the springs.

The trucks rating can be changed by adding leaves to the springs. You can stack above the top of the cab, if you interlock the bales.

Lay four in the bed, angle them in from the sides and zig zag to the height of 13 feet, about 20 bales.
