Didn't that go against the teachings of Jesus? Isn't that a sin?

No.... I do believe Catholics are indeed Christians. I am a former one, and Catholics believed that Jesus was the son of God. So, no matter what branch of Christianity did this, they are still Christians.

This was a long time ago and it was a war to regain land that was taken away. They were people. It started out right but people made mistakes.

Yes. This wasn't Jesus battle. If it was Jesus battle then the Crusaders wouldn't have lost it.

So, I would guess the Crusaders were a mix of true Christians and religious and unbelievers. It was the muslim crusaders that overtook the land in the first place. They had overtaken Christian churches and converted them into mosques.

The crusaders mistakenly attacked Jews also, not recognizing who the enemy really was.

That wasn't G-d's call. It grew to become into the Pope's thought. on the time Europeans have been the "barbarians". The midle east grew to become into dealing with a golden age. Jerusalem exceeded to and fro between the Muslims and Christians. Saladin, a great ruler throughout the time of between the crusades, wanted the combating to end and wanted to maintain Jerusalem as place for all religions to stay peacefully. After the marketing campaign he and King Richard III honestly grew to develop into rather sturdy acquaintances.

In a sense it did go against what Jesus taught. Back then many men, (unfortunetly many in the church) were like the Pharisees of Jesus's time. The situation with the Crusades wasnt a terribly important reason to go to war. Now if the Muslims were attacking the actual English towns with no other reason then hatred for those who dont believe like they did then that might have been a better reason for the Eurpoeans to fight the them.

What you have to remember is that the Crusades happened 800 years ago when everyone except a few were illiterate. If you apply today's morality standars to something that happened in another time you are bound to find inconsistencies.
I cannot be responsible for what people did at that time. I can only be responsible for what I do now.
So if you are saying that some Christians 800 years ago were murdering savages you are right.

yes the crusades were in deed against the teachings of Jesus. You can blame Pope Urban II for all of that. false propoganda, followed by relentless killings of all people on the way to Jerusalem...which they didn't even know how to get to...it was all sadistic and in the name of "religion" when it was all political. POWER was the name of the game. kind of still is today but under a different name. everything is political and hidden behind the ideal of "God"..half of these morons don't even pray.

I think so, killing of the infidels was really more of an old testament thing.

Really though, if you look at it, the crusades killed more than just Muslims. French crusaders killed many jews on their way out of france. Crusaders sacked the city of Constantinople (Orthodox Christian), and then the northern crusades killed many pagans as well.

So to me it seems that the crusades were really fought to defeat the opposition of the Roman Catholic church. Fortunately, catholics don't do that anymore...

These crusades were organized by the Papacy. The Roman church by that time had been quite corrupted by unsaved people. Therefore, many ungodly things were being done in the name of Christ.

My concern is this: Why are we now concerned about events that ended 802 years ago?
