The best thing to do is be sure and visit a doctor regularly, and make sure he/she knows about your family history. High blood pressure, sugar diabetes and heart disease also runs heavy on both sides of my family. My doctor takes lab work about once a year to make sure I'm doing fine. She also advises me on diet, exercise (even though I find those hard to follow all the time), and general tips of well being. A good doctor will care and take the time to make sure you don't follow in your family's medical footsteps!

Be aware of all the types of breast cancer and knowledge is the most powerful thing any woman has to prevent it. Good luck. I'll bet if I ask about IBC 90% of the women out there has never heard of it. And no I don't have to worry about it because i am a guy, but I know lots of information on this subject because both my parents are gone and died from cancer. No i don't know everything about it I'm still learning.

You CAN DO what ever you want to do. I have the same genetic background & I refuse to end up as a guinea pig for experimental drugs & treatments. I am a fatalist. I believe that if it is meant to be, then it will be & there isn't one damn thing you can do about it. That's why I live each day to it's fullest & I have made it known that I do not wish to be put on machines or cut open or have any one else's blood put into my body. The QUALITY of my life is more important than having my life prolonged with experiments & a possible loss of life at an earlier time than was intended by nature. I watched far too many of my relatives leading terrible lives on medications & in the end they died in worse shape than before they were diagnosed & accepted treatment. I stay away from Doctors. I say just enjoy life & eat healthier than your parents did!

For the breast cncer, you might consider having implants- As insane as it might sound Europena researchers found that women who had histories of agressive cancers in the breast, underwent surgery and then had implnats fro reconstruction had a lower risk of develoing the tumour again. And in those that did develop it again, the tumour growth was slowera nd the treatment worked faster.
Theories abound as to why, but possibly the scar tissue of mass of the implant might reduce blood flow to the tumours; There is evidence that breast cancer is unknown among African women who scar their breasts as part of their tribal rites.
but take care and get regular checkups in any event.
