My out-of-shape husband who normally just sits around playing video games in the evening has taken up softball. Yes, softball! He is nearly 30, and like I said, out of shape. He just came home and tells me he thinks he's torn the muscles in the front of his legs. Torn, or just really pulled, I don't know. So, what should he do about it? Any strecthes?
And don't say 'See a doctor' because he NEVER goes to the doc. Plus, it's not that serious since he's not having excrutiating pain.

Torn? You need to see a sports med doc about that. Really don't let it go, go get it checked out because it could cause you problems later.
If you think it might be just pulled really bad.
Always remember RICE.
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation.

lol this made me smile as my hubby is the same way, aren't they all? Hmmm, anyway, he will need to take some ibuprofen and use a heating pad on low or med. to relax and soothe these torn muscle fibers. No stretching, this would only stress them further. Do you have a hot tub? This would be excellent.
He will need to keep the heating pad on all the time all week, as these take some time to heal because there are so many of them, and they are big muscles. This is usually caused by taking off running too fast in softball, and they can't handle the strain of it, or running too fast without a warm up. They will be sensitive now for some time, so he'll have to be careful, and maybe miss one game if he plays weekly. He needs to baby them to get them better.

If you don't know if it's torn or just pulled, either way he NEEDS to see a doctor. I know that you didn't want to hear that, but torn muscles can be a big problem. He needs to see a doc, rest and stay off of it until it heals.

No heat for three days Ice the area. If it's torn, some swelling will occur.
