Keep the dog inside unless it needs to go out. Dogs bark for all kinds of reasons. To answer another barking dog, warn off
other animals, sound an alert to something. My dog will bark at people who walk by my home, carry on a conversation with her boyfriend down the street, or alert us inside that something is wrong. I prefer a dog who barks. Low lifes who break into homes will avoid a home with a barking dog.

Some dogs bark more than others, just like some people talk more than others. Try to find out if there is a pattern as to WHY the dog is barking. Does he want attention? Does he stop when you pet him?--then maybe he wants to be petted. Does he need to use the bathroom? Is he in pain? Is he lonely? Are you gone a lot? Maybe he needs a doggie friend. Try to find out what is going on with him, because most likely he isn't barking for no reason.

If he isn't barking excessively, then you might need to simply adjust to him, or find him a loving home. Dogs bark. It's what they do.

Some of you people better never get dogs. Yes, dogs bark. It could be bathroom time, there could be another dog barking that you may not hear, it could be hungry... Have you trained your dog to speak? If you can train them to speak you can train them to be silent as well. Teach him/her that barking is for playtime and to signal the need to come in or out. I've raised two boxers that only bark inside when asked to, or when its time to potty. If you have an outside dog, just deal with it. It was your choice to keep a vocal animal. I agree with violingirl, no shocking, no hitting. Dogs respond to reward much better than abuse.

Go to obedience class. Please don`t put an electronic shocking device around a living creatures neck!! Mother of hell!!\

You need to reward him when he stops barking on your command or he wont see any reason why he would do it again the next time. You MUST go into a calm assertive state of mind. Animals pick up on emotions and will take you seriously if he knows you are the alpha. Keep in mind that a real pack leader does not use force to get what they want. That just shows that they are weaker. They stay calm and assertive and the betas and omegas obey.

You distract him away from what he is barking at. Dogs bark for various reasons. Make sure that his barking is not trying to let you know something is wrong. Scolding doesn't help. Give him a treat and take him to another location.

Just want to say thank you for trying to find out !
I just wished more pet owners were like you and tried to stop their dogs from barking at everything and everybody. It can be ever so annoying, specially if you don't own a dog, don't like dogs and would not be even remotely sad if they did not exist at all......

First figure out why she is barking and then nip it at the bud. If she likes to pass as cars pass by don't let her. Consistent correction should do the trick. Last resort, bark collars that spray or shock if she is that bad.

swap it with a toy look alike? dogs bark just like you talk. its their way of communication. Unless you intend to mute it, you can only control the barking somewhat by training but not totally.

Train him. The Schnauzer barks his silly little *** off everytime he goes outside. Bribe him with treats and say, "No bark!", and give him one when he stops, does the trick.
