what does ice really do when you put it where u get hurt playing or doing something?

Ice reduces the inflamatory response. Which will/should slow or reduce the amount of swelling of an injury. It also numbs nerve endings which will reduce pain.

It makes the blood vessels tighten up from the cold which forces out any fluid -- which is what swelling is.
So yes, it does do alot of good.

It keeps your muscles from swelling and you won't get hurt as long. If u put hot water on it,it will make it swell more.

ice cool isn't first choice for hurt, medication , bardage are better choice.
