SI is the International Standards of measurement (grams, meters, miters etc). In terms of baking all you need to know is that there are 28 grams in an ounce and 28 milliliters in a fluid ounce. Usually this is rounded down to 25g / 25ml, so a recipe calling for 12 ounces of sugar would equate to 300g of sugar (12 x 25).

It doesn't really matter if the recipe in in imperial or metric units as you just convert between the two.
