An open house is just that. It is where people come in with a gift for the bride, maybe hang out for a little while, eat some finger foods, have a beverage and then leave. No games involved.

What in the world is an open house bridal shower?

My etiquette book says that an open house is a type of housewarming party that sort of goes on all day or all weekend, and people drop in and leave at all times of the long party-- basically the hosts are there to receive people for an extended period of time and guests come and go.

But it has nothing to do with a wedding shower.

Think of a cocktail party or a housewarming party. It is a bunch of people chatting and coming going with no structure. This means no games, no present opening, and no formal dinner.

Some whats that you can run it is set it up in the largest room of the house (like the living room). In one corner set up a table with finger foods (fruits, veggies, cheeses, crackers, and possibly bruchetta, chicken fingers, or other hot appetizers) and drinks. You can go with a simple punch, various cans of soda on ice, or a few bottles of wine with some non-alcoholic drinks. Then in the corner closest to the door have an empty table set up for presents and a guest book. Play some soft music in the background and make sure the bride is chatting with people and you thank them for coming. Then set up a few small circles of chairs and let people mingle and enjoy!

Good Luck!

you have it open from noon to five or whatever hours they choose and the guests can come and go as they please. no games are normally played due to the times.
