It's usualy because of high acid content in her skin, it just reacts with the gold..to stop it from happening, you can coat what ever she wears with a thin layer of clear nail polish, it will not ruin the gold, and it will protect her skin...

Is it gold plated?
Some people are allergic to some metals. A more common allergy is to nickel. ((You used to be able to test this with an old American nickel. You would take it, rest it on your arm, and after a little bit, remove it, and you would see the allergic reaction on the spot where it had rested.))
I'm going to double check for you about allergies to gold.

Okay, I checked. Some poeple do have an allergic reaction, but it is more frequent if the patient also has gold fillings.
The best thing you should do is suggest she go to see a dermatologist. They can then determine exactly why she is reacting.

This is caused by a chemical reaction between the metal and the skin. I have the same problem. I can only wear 10k or higher gold and I can't wear silver at all. No one has been able to explain why this happens to me, only that it has to do with the way my body chemicals react to the metal. Hope this helps.

Usually a sensitivity to the nickel used in the alloy ("real" 14k gold means 14/24 pure, 24k gold is too soft). Sterling silver is about 99% pure, might be a good alternative.

the only reason I've ever heard this is because the gold is fake, there might be a small percentage of real gold in your gold. the rest is probably alloyed and that could be the cause of the blackness.

It can be that she is low in iron. If you run a gold ring across your check and it leaves a black line, it indicates low iron in the body.

Strange. I can only think that she is allergic to it or that something in her body chemistry reacts to gold that way. If it bothers her she shouldn't wear it. What does fake jewellery do????

if it's leaving a mark, I hate to tell you, but it isn't real gold. she might have something that is gold-plated...but not real gold
