Seriously, did you get down on you knees and renounce every aspect of your ego, because by the very nature of the ego, it needs a substance to survive, it needs sin to survive. For example Jesus implied that to look at a women with 'lust' was just as good as a sin as the very act (thoughts are deeds), but yet we need an ego to have self confidence? and seperate with the mind right from wrong? We need an ego to survive? but does that not seperate us from God? and make our plee for repentence a uphill climb to which is a never ending climb and contradictory to every breath we breath? I know I've lost a lot of people here, but hopefuly somebody understands? or dare I say it, am I crazy?

If we all renounce our ego it would not make it easier for the Government or Church (I belong to no church!) to control us because we would have very little need for the majority of our material goods, therefore for economic reasons the Government will crumble. I do not preach, I teach. My parents taught me good manners, language, dodgy social skills etc but they did not teach me about God with them being atheists. May the force be with you.

Sin is a term used mainly in a religious context to describe an act that violates a moral code of conduct or the state of having committed such a violation. In monotheistic religions, the code of conduct is determined by God. Colloquially, any thought, word, or act considered immoral, shameful, harmful, or alienative might be termed "sinful".

In Freud's theory, the ego mediates between the id, the super-ego and the external world. Its task is thus to find a balance between primitive drives, morals and reality while satisfying the Id. It's main concern is with the individual's safety and allows some of the Id's desires to be expressed, but only when consequences of these actions are minimal. Ego defense mechanisms are often used by the ego when Id behavior conflicts with reality. This conflict occurs between the Id and either society's morals, norms, and taboos or between the Id and the individual's expectations as a result of the internalization of these morals, norms, and taboos into the superego.

Having an ego doesn't necessarily mean you have sinned. Your ego helps determine from right and wrong. If you choose wrongly then you may have sinned but that isn't your ego making you choose incorrectly. That is you, ignoring the warning signs from your ego.

Yes I do, when I slip up. I have already been Baptised, so all my sins before becoming a Christian have been forgiven. I have to come back for forgiveness every now and then when I slip (or, sometimes, do something deliberately). It's like what Jesus said when He washed the Disciples feet. We have been washed clean of sin, we just need the occasional spot washed off.

It is not about renouncing ego, but flesh (our basic physical desires) and self (things we do which do not benefit anyone but ourselves, or that mean depriving or harming other people in some way). Far from getting morbid about these things, getting forgiveness is liberating.

You see, I have The Holy Spirit. He is changing me and, boy, have I been changed during these past almost 30 years. So, far from cringing and grovelling, I determine not to do the same thing again (we call this repentance), pray for forgivenesss, and leave it to The Holy Spirit to change me so that the same problem is not likely to arise again.

Feelings of guilt do not come from God, nor are we required to have them. In fact, the Bible says Christians are not under condemnation if they live every day in the Spirit of God. Conviction is another thing. So, God (or someone else) tells us we have sinned. We accept this, determine to change, ask for forgiveness, apologies to anyone who has been harmed, restore or repair as necessary whatever it costs us, and get on with living.

forgiveness of our sins is a once off event, covering all sins, even the ones we only have in our minds, past present and future. This act of repentence is what brings us into a relationship with God, and once you are a son of god you will always be a son of God, you can't NOT be, it's like being a brother or sister, you can walk away from the person but the relationship will never go away. That said, we do need to keep working on the parts of us that cause us to sin. I know I need to control my impatience, think nicer thoughts about certain people, forgive my husband for his fling, be a better mum. We are to keep on asking god to help us become better people, and it's not easy but if you ask God to give you patience, He will, it will be painful, but you will be a better person at the end of it. Many people fall down on this point, they expect to be perfect once they have become christians, truth is we won't be perfect until we are with Jesus, but we have access to god as if we are perfect because Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross. Guilt is something that can be dealt with, not carried around, that's what grace is about, giving forgiveness where we do not deserve it. Nothing you do will suprise God, or separate you from Him.

Right. Renounce your ego, so it's much easier for the hierarchies of your church and government to control you.

And, well... I have no proof, but I wouldn't rule out that you're crazy... What? You asked!

Yes, repentance from sin and faith toward God is neccessary.

Yes, I have repented...and do always ask forgiveness when the Holy Spirit shows me any known sin that may crop up...

Thanks for the post...

Sin? no such thing, religon and every concept that goes with it is man (person?) made - go out and enjoy life and stop worrying. If you feel there is an afterlife or whatever just don't cause harm, you won't have anything to worry about then.

Interesting question. But I don't think that every aspect of religion goes against human nature.... just most of them. Maybe if you try really hard you can change your ego and convince yourself that this is what you really WANT to be doing.

THE FATAL FLAW IN THE BIBLE......

It wasnt writen by Jesus. The bible is a few mens opinions that have sadly shaped the minds of millions and caused natural personal conflict (such as your own) with the irrationality of it all.

Trust your own morals not what that celibate stranger from 2000 years ago says.
