It is a normal response of your body to prevent you from physically acting out your dreams when you sleep. For instance, when you run in your dream, you still lay flat in your bed.
I think it is called something like sleep paralysis:
http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/paralysis.html
I find I am more apt to get it when I take melatonin tablets. Now that I know what it is, I wait it out and see how much I can do until it wears off. It's pretty cool once you understand it.
Describing things that you don't understand as demonic or religious is exactly the reason that religion was created and has propagated like a disease through humanity.

Definitely it is not a demon
It is just a state of you body. Sometime the body is very active, sometimes tired and sometimes in between and I think that is what is happening in you case before you fall asleep
Your body is still in the active day mode but mentally you want to sleep so your body might react that way. I too have that sometimes specifically on active days where I have a lot of things to do.
So I assume that it happens to you to on days where you do more that usually or you are just going through a very busy time right now.
In time when things slow down that will disappear. It´s just you body reaction and definitely not a demon

Everyone experiences exactly that same phenomenon each time our bodies make the fascinating transition from wakefulness to sleep. The same thing happens when our bodies rise from sleep into a waking consciousness. Most of us are never aware of, or have memory of, that temporary state.
It's a NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE HUMAN BRAIN. It's designed to "paralyze" or suppress our ability to move while we're sleeping, in order to prevent our bodies from physically acting out the actions our sleeping minds believe we are, or should be, engaged in...while we DREAM.
Otherwise, we'd injure ourselves as we literally went through the motions of our dreams.
Your brain is astonishingly beautiful in its complexities. Give it some credit!
And when you're confronted with something you don't understand, don't be so damned eager to run to the closest, silliest, most superstitious "explanation" you're offered!

It aint no demon, if it was you'd know. It probably has to do with the brain functions being a bit scewed as you fall asleep. Normal peoples brain flow more smoothly as when your consciousness starts to sleep your body goes with it. However it seems your brain is telling your body to fall asleep before your mind actually falls asleep causing you this condition, Im sure its perfectly explainable, I would seek a doctor for advice. But I certainly wouldn't sweat it.

No. You are just entering into sleep paralysis before you actually fall all the way to sleep. There is nothing to worry about. Your body becomes paralyzed during certain states of sleep so you don't physically act out your dreams. So, when you feel that way, just relax for a minute and it will go away.

Not necessarily. Sometimes we feel paralyzed right after we
get back in our body from a spiritual journey during sleep.
Most "evil" spirits, are lost souls that we attract while on these journeys. We will experience temporary things like something
touching us. A fleeting thing we try to act like we didn't see.
These things usually poop out on thier own.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Many try to
"banish" evil spirits. When it may simply be the spirit of a loved
one checking up on you, and your body reacting with fear.
Like it says, "not my will, but yours be done." Ask God to handle it.
He knows what the situation is better than we.

this sounds like sleep paralysis .. it is not demons .....
our body releases chemicals at the point of sleep so that we do not act out our dreams .. we are paralysed during sleep
if we are awake whilst it is released .. or waken too soon during REM then it can be very frightening
this is often accompanied with hullucination type imagery/feelings/sounds and it is often reported that it feels like someone is sitting on our chest and we have difficulty breathing etc
the hullucination is called hypnagogic state
please look it up along with sleep paralysis
and if it gets bad or frequent , a GP can help out xxx

It may be, but there is a lot of psyche attack (not pyschic but psyche) mind attack. It is probably an energy vampire. energy vampires like to get you when or as you are falling asleep. When an energy vampire has you, you can not move. Especially when you are asleep, it is nearly impossiple to move or cry out. some one is taking your energy, possibly for use in magic. You need to either get an oil burner and white sage oil, and burn several drops, every 4 days or so, or buy white sage and burn a little of that and smoke out your house. Also, seek help!! Take back your power.

This is actually a medical condition. Occasionally it has hullicinations involved among other things. The below site explains it in detail. I suffer from this same condition and can say with certainty that its not religious in any way.
