I'm in South Carolina and recently a new law passed about people smoking under the age of 18. Before it was only illegal for a person 18 or older to buy cigarettes for anybody underage, but now here in SC minors are getting punished for it. The first time is a warning and your nicotine products are taken away, 2nd time you get a $25 fine. If you are caught too many times you can have your license taken away or you won't be able to get it. Are the rules about cigarettes like this in any other states?

hopefully. cigarrettes suck. They're probably 90% of the litter I see and I want to fart on people who smoke where I can smell it. (i have especially smelly farts).

Yeah, it does sound like Texas. Here you must be 18 to buy and are punished if you try to buy underage. Smoking and drinking are treated almost the same. I'm from Dallas and our mayor (Laura Miller) made it illegal to smoke inside dallas restaurants. Smokers hate it, but those of us without the habit (or with children) are thankful for it.

I think its great! I quit smoking 5 years ago, so I really don't pay any attention to the laws anymore since they don't affect me. The only time cigarettes affect me is when someone is smoking near the entrance of a building and that I have to walk through that stench to get in and out of the building.

Yes, laws that apply to children under the age of 18 are called status offenses and are generally things like curfew, cigarette and alcohol use and other things that adults don't have as violations of the law due to age.

I don't know but, while it feels lousy to a teen who wants to smoke, this is a progressive law that makes sense to me. I started smoking at 14 - quit at 23. It is so hard for folks to quit but if you wait to start, you may just not do it.

sounds like the Texas law. they fine you on first offense and have the option to send the youngster to boot camp. It is called minor in possession.

It sounds kinda similar to the law in Michigan. I don't think it is heavily enforced.
