It seems to me that a lot of atheists and non believers(keep in mind that not all non believers wish to be called atheists) seem to think they are exempt from having to display good moral character. Since they have no fear of going to hell they feel they can do anything they want and nothing could be further from the truth. Whether a person believes in God or not homosexuality still defies the laws of nature, murder, theft, adultery, wreckless, lustful acts of fornication, lying and other immoral acts are all still wrong. Even without believing in God, heaven or hell these acts are all wrong. Being a person of good character and showing love and respect for our neighbor is still something that is mandated whether a person believes in God or not. It is not a free pass to live wrecklessly. Are you with me?

Homosexuality does defy the law of nature. Only a man and woman can reproduce. Two men can't reproduce. Neither can two women. Are you some kind of an idiot?

Wee yoo are you serious? Is abortion not murder? A vast majority of the population are engaging in premarital sex. And we don't even want to bring up homosexuality now do we?

I am not saying all atheists or non-believers are without morals. However, there are a lot individuals who feel that since they don't believe in God they have a free pass to do whatever they want. This was inspired by a conversation I had at work today with two co-workers who are non-believers.

Hating! Please tell me you aren't that stupid. Homosexuality wasn't created by God. The word of God speaks against homosexuality. It is evil and comes from Satan. In the same manner has murder, rape, theivery. Some people say they were born liars, thieves, murders and rapists. Does that mean it was created by God.No. It means somewhere down the line these people made a very bad choice.

Chrystal P all you have to do is go to www.bible.com baby. There are all kinds of scripture on the wickedness of homosexuality. You can start by typing in the word abomination. Oh it's there baby! Go see for yourself. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Oh Missy. How old are you 12. A person doesn't have to be a Christian to have good morals. Do you believe you have to be Christian to know right from wrong. Is stealing from your mother's purse right or wrong? Is cheating on a test in school right or wrong? Is it okay to steal from your mom's purse if your aren't a Christian? Is it okay to cheat on a test in school if you are not a Christain? Pretty deep huh? Think about it.

Ms. Geologist. That sperm comes from a man. With that being the case a woman can't reproduce without a man. If a man weren't around to produce the semen no reproduction would be possible. Just because you scientist can monkey around with nature doesn't mean homosexuality does not defy the law of nature because it does. Homosexuality is an abomination and it is wrong. When will you liberals get that through your thick skulls.

Well Jaco, adultery doesn't break the law of the land. Is it okay? Disrespecting your parents doesn't break the law of the land? Is it okay? If a person adopts a child and then later on goes on to marry their adopted child is that okay? Now do you see how wrong you are?

Anonymous I most certainly agree with you. There are a lot of people out there who claim to be Christians that commit immoral acts. There is much more to being a Christian than attending church on Sunday's and believe me I will be addressing this issue as well. I would also like to add that no one is without sin. There is much more to sin than just the things I have listed. There is also issues of anger, jealously, resentment, pride, you name it. I find myself praying to God for strength, knowlege, patience, understanding and wisdom on a daily basis. I am having a bit of fun with some of these answers but the truth of the matter is I know that I am not perfect and I am not without sin. No one is. Not even the holiest of the holy. However, I just continually strive to be the best person that I can be and spread the word of God whenever the opportunity arises. Peace and God bless.

I agree that some athiests believe they are exempt from moral responsibilities, but not all. In fact none of the athiests (including myself) are immoral.

I would also like to point out that there are plenty of very religious people who are extremely immoral. Lots of Christians feel they can behave immorally and then later repent to save their souls from hell. Lots of religious people are violent and in favour of war to defend their religions, isn't that supposed to be up to god to sort out when he judges us.

You also need to realize that people with different religions have slightly different views on what is immoral and we all need to have some degree of understanding of other peoples beliefs if we are going to live together on this planet.

Let's clear something up here: there is a difference between a true atheist and a non-believer. The atheist will not even accept the concept of a higher power---to him anything can be explaineed in scientific terms. The non-believer on the other hand, is just that: a person who does not believe that there is a God out there. My dad was a pure atheist. For him, nothing impossible was impossible---there was always a scientific solution that explained what happened, why it happened, and so forth. My mom was a nonbeliever-she didn't believe that there was a God out there, she believed that Jesus and Nostradamus were great seers, that they could see the future, and therefore Jesus was put on a pedestal etc.etc.

I am a believer, but I have strictly separated myself from the churches, for the abuse that is going on in these sanctuaries by priests and ministers is a little too disturbing to me. I find that one can be a believer without having to go to a church.

As far as your statement of the atheists' and non believers' respect etc. goes do I have to tell you that that has to be scientifically been proven to me. I met too many people who go to church every sunday, yet, they steal, they cheat, they commit adultery, they have children by more than one man, they do all those sins, but they are believers. So the fact that one commits a sin does not mean that one is a non believer or an atheist. An atheist knows he is an atheist and he/she will give you a very good and rational explanation on why.

The bottom line though, is that we all have our belief and we should tolerate our neighbor's belief and respect it, for we want to be respected and tolerated wit our beliefs. No one has the right to try and force another to adopt a certain belief---that, to me, is the bottom line....

For atheists & non believers , morality is not the term. It is right and wrong. Morality is a subjective thing. What is right for some people may not be right for you. Because you think you know what is good for others. You feel you are always in the right while others who
don't share your beliefs are wrong. This attitude in itself is wrong. What do you mean by living wrecklessly? As far as the local laws of the land are not violated , why should anyone bother? In some countries , homosexuality is permitted by law. They allow gay marriages , even. That is immoral? ( I am not gay , still )

I'm an atheist. I strongly disagree with you. I have a very high sense of ethical responsibility. I think anyone who murders another human being has done a very evil act. I may even consider it a worse act that you do, since I believe that the murdered person no longer exists in any realm, whereas you believe that person has an after life. I believe the murdered person has had *everything* taken away from them, whereas you just believe that there mortal life as cut short.

I totally disagree with your statement that homosexuality "defies the laws of nature." In fact, there is plenty of real evidence of homosexuality among mammals in general and primates in particular. Also, my homosexual friends are loving, decent people, and all of them say that they have been attracted to the same sex for as long as they remember feeling any kind of attraction.

If you think homosexuality is unnatural and evil, you probalby got it from your religious world view, because if you had spent time with homosexuals you would realize that they are just as human as you and just as deserving of respect and love. Your phobia against them probably makes it harder for you to live up to the "love thy neighbor" moral.

homosexuality was created by god.Homosexuals are god's children too.. Also being anti race ,religion and homosexuality is against good morals. If you live a good moral life, you do not hate, judge or discriminate against anyone.now the only thing I agree with is the murder, theives, adultry, lying types are immoral.. otherwise the whole homosexuality thing I totally disagree with and I'm highly spiritual.being a person of good character and showing love and respect for our neighbors consists of being nice to those different than us whether homosexual or disabled etc.Homosexuality is not a choice but you're born that way.there are believers who are homosexual.you can be religious and homosexual.

2006-08-31 13:26:15 · answer #5 · answered by hating and being mean is a sin 1 · 4 0

I disagree. I believe it is wrong for Christians to ask non-Christians to behave by Christian standards. NOT because truth is relative -- it isn't. Truth is absolute, and their sin is no less sin just because they don't believe in it.

But here's why: I don't need them to stop sinning to somehow make my life better and more comfortable. Thus, homosexuality does not concern me on the basis that it's unnatural, etc. I wish for people to stop sinning because it is keeping them from God and it will cause them to go to hell. And to stop sinning isn't enough -- they must be born again.

Now, the government can make and enforce laws against killing, stealing, and that sort of thing. But things like homosexuality, adultery, lying (non-perjury), fornication ... these are not things I can expect them to stop just because.

ADDITIONAL:
I see where YOUR morals are. Thanks for the accusation of being 12. Our moral standard comes from God himself. If someone doesn't believe in God, how can _I_ hold him to God's moral standard? Of course they have a conscience with the law of God written on their hearts, but that's not for me to enforce. It's for me to show them how they're separated from their Father and destined for hell. I really thought there was some intelligence in your question until you started hurling insults. No thank you. And for that, have another thumbs-down, jerk.

Well now, isn't that a change of pace. Usually we get told we can't possibly HAVE any morals because we don't believe.

I'm personally all for morals, and I agree with most of the things you've listed as your morals. I do, however, object to being subject to your own personal morals, or the ambiguity of the morals as described in the bible.

But I assure you, although I am a nonbeliever, I am NOT an amoral person!

As an atheist, I think what you're saying is complete BS. I am good moral person. I help people everyday, I give my time to the less fortunate, etc. And here you are saying that homosexuals are against nature, and that non-believers, etc reak havoc in our society! I thought that christians were supposed to be kind to everyone and respect people, not berate others for what they believe or do with their life? You aren't showing love or respect to anyone by assuming that gays and atheists are doing wrong. Who cares if somes one's gay? Its their choice(and sorry to tell you bud, being gay is in most cases something you're born with!).
Take your head outta the clouds and learn to see people for who they are and not that they're gay or a non believer.
You're one of those christians that makes me really sick, a hole!

Do you feel you are right in trying to tell US (and others) who we are? You are not us and could not possibly be able to speak for a group you are not a part of, which is RUDE. And far be it from you to actually ASK US about who we are as people.

"Since they have no fear of going to hell they feel they can do anything they want and nothing could be further from the truth."

This is stereotyping prejudiced crap, and "nothing could be further from the truth" on THAT fact! Do you even realized that MOST atheists/non-believers ARE very MORAL people? WITHOUT having to fear your god to be good people. WE do not do it for any kind reward in the end, WE do it because it is what is right, so don't even try to put yourself so "high and mighty" above us.

What couldnt be further from the truth is your question and statement.

Homosexuals can re-produce, one gay man, one gay woman, gay man has a ham shank into a cup, contents get put inside woman via IVF or turkey baster and hey presto 9 months later a sprog pops out. And guess what, no sex was involved! Go figure than one!

Edit:

I was born gay and Im female!!!!

You clearly don't know many atheists and non-believers. The ones I know are some of the most moral people I know.
They just don't need your bible to tell them what is right and wrong. And they do right because it IS RIGHT, not because they fear punishment by your or any other god.

Blessings, W.
