Many have said drivers license, which is true, or other government issued picture ID .... but you ALSO need to have birth certificate or other proof of citizenship ... if not to get into Canada, then definitely to get back in to the states. Save yourself the hassle, just do it.

Also, someone mentioned about kids ... you need birth certificate for them as well, and if both parents aren't with them, a note from the parent not present indicating permission for child to cross the border.

For pets, you need proof of rabies vaccination.

Just an ID or driver's license. I agree with toronto-guy. In 2007, you would need a passport to Canada. Mexico could be next.

right now...only a drivers license, but that changes next year & you will need a ppasport to re-enter the country. Getting out isn't hard, it's getting back in you need to prove.
