OK. Many of you have been asking what are the immigration laws in other countries.
In most of Europe, we don't want immigrants. We are not immigrant societies. We've bilt cultures and traditions, have our own language and want to keep that way.
And to be more specific , in my country alone if an employer hires undocumented worker, he gets a $15,000 fine. To become a citizen you have to be of the same ethnicity, despite brought up in another country. So we don't have any type of immigrants-neither legal or illegal.
BUT USA IS A COUNTRY totally different, known to welcome immigrants for centuries. That's why we came here, hoping we would be treated the same way as your ancestors-get citizenship swiftly and live our lives. No such thing happened! We are treated as criminals in a nation DEFINED BY IMMIGRATION.
Legal and illegal until beginning of 20th century were the same thing. If you came here, you were given a passport and a new life! Your ancestors got a a chance, why can't we?

MelT, I don't praise Europe more than US. It's just totally different sitation. We WANT to be backward in Europe and keep our identity. US doesn't HAVE an ethnic identity. You are a melting pot of all cultures in the world. It's a unique experiment that so far has worked out well. It's good to work in US and spend you retirement in Europe.
Britain is becoming a pale copy of the US. I cannot comment on tha, aprt from the fact most temporary workers from Eastern Europe are NOT immigrants. They don't want to remain in UK for more than a few years...They work there because there are a part of EU and the law allows them to work wherever they want in EU. That's not exactly immigration.

Crystal, those terrorists were all legal. Muslims before 9/11 had no problems coming to US, tourist visas were given away like nothing.
Many of us stay here after out visas expire because we find jobs. No employer has been punished until recently. Whose fault is that?Ours? We just want a better life.I understand Americans feel threatened, but is it us you should be afraid of?

in the late 1800's the Irish came to escape famine and starvation. They all thaught that america was the land of opportunity. Instead they lived in poverty in sub human conditions. they were looked down upon and it was hard for them to find jobs...many business would hang signs saying 'Irish need not apply".

There are many more examples in history were immigrants were NOT welcome. if you think otherwise you need to research the history of immigration in America...

It took generations if immigrants to assimilate into american society to finally be accepted. it was your choice to come here, now YOU must deal with the realty that no one wants you here! history repeats itself....

Soooo, YOU'RE Bunt! It wasn't that easy even as recently as the beginning of the 20th Century. My grandparents on my father's side were legal immigrants as was my grandmother's entire family and many friends. My father recalls seeing his family and the neighbors of Scottish, Irish, and German ethnicities sitting on the porch in the spring and summer studying to take their citizenship test. It was a lot of hard work. Regardless, immigrants were not as welcome as your portray, particularly during the Great Depression. My grandfather was well educated and came over in second class, not steerage. Still, he was a tool and die maker and was often out of work during the Depression. He would walk for miles, as many would then, for a job opening, but often since he had an accent, he was considered a "foreigner" and the jobs went to "Americans" even though he was already a citizen. Further, it was more difficult for illegal immigrants to enter the States back then. Even if you were legal but sick or the examiner didn't like you, he could mark you for holding at Ellis Island for example for many months or send you back altogether. You certainly didn't just get off the boat and handed a passport or citizenship! I think you need to brush up on your facts.

Bunt, we do have an ethnic identity, and we like it.

We maintain it by saying people can only immigrate within our limits for immigration or you are breaking the law and we want you out.

I don't think you could realistically have thought you would be treated as our ancestors who came here legally were treated, when you broke our laws to get here or to overstay here. If we wanted more people, we would have had different laws.

but, you are not looking at the big picture. some people from other countries come to the us to kill our people and find new ways to destroy our wonderful country. I have to different opinions on this. one- why do people favors that aren't gonna do us any? I think that foreigners should not come her to practice medicine or any other prestigious job there practices are good enough for their country but not ours, if you look at 90% of the malpractice suits they are against immigrants. At the same time i look to god and culture why do you think there are so many different kinds? but, however children and women that are treated badly in their own country but are innocent should be allowed over but only if they take classes to speak English and pass it.

You are wrong. The distinction between legal and illegal immigration has always existed. It is only relatively recently that administrations have chosen not to enforce the law.

You do have a choice. Live illegally and suffer the consequences or go back home and apply to emigrate here legally.

silly bunt...

STOP TALKING DOWN ABOUT US IMMIGRATION JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE AN ILLEGAL AND ARE JEALOUS THAT OTHERS [LIKE ME] WERE ABLE TO GET A GREEN CARD AND CITIZENSHIP AND YOU WERE NOT. GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY OR STOP COMPLAINING!!

imigrants are not criminals!!! all you have to do is fill out the freaking paperwork and come her legally and then you WONT be treated like a criminal!!!!!! [because then you will be LEGAL instead of ILLEGAL.]

Illegal immigrants are laughing in the face, destroying the country my ancestors built. The immigrants from 100 years ago built businesses, hospitals, schools, they became doctors, lawyers, schoolteachers, businessmen. According to the pro-illegals, the illegals are fruit-pickers, sending their pittance back to Mexico, while they get free medical care and their kids go to school free of charge, they ignore our laws and manipulate any system they can. I was taught to get respect, you have to earn it. What are they doing to earn the respect of the American people?

Well I guess the USA is becoming like your home country so I guess you should feel at home now. Until you learn to understand legal and illegal immigration we shall never see each other eye to eye. but I don't hate you because we do not agree.

No country can continue to welcome millions of illegals. Every country started with immigrants. Because America is a new country compared with other countries all were welcomed. Things can't continue as they are. It is no more your right to enter unwanted than it would be for me to enter your country unwanted.

Yeah, there are people whose lifelong passion it is to never leave their region, practice millenia - old traditions and breed like their pedigrees are worth something. Sounds like a great lifestyle. What's more they'd be rich if they could get a dime each for recessive genes on Ebay. Great thing to be proud of - the one thing you can't possible take credit for - your nationality.
