Wood, definitely.
It's better suited for a dining room and I think it's a better added value for the house's resale too.

Wood is probably a better product for resell in most homes.
What type of flooring will meet this floor? If you have Stone or Tile in the Entry and the DR is off the entry, then it could be a way of opening up the house more. Think about what the other floor surfaces that meet this will be. The more open the floor plan looks the better.

I would choose the floor covering based on the condition of the sub floor and the style of the house. For a sub floor that is in good condition and in an informal house/dining room I would go with the tile. If the sub floor is not in good shape I would go with a floating wood floor covering. If the house is formal then I would also choose the wood floor covering. If you go with wood I would also consider getting trim with a matching stain. Also any color that you pick for the floor covering should be something that makes a smooth transition into any joining rooms.

I love the look of real natural tile. However, it is VERY cold. And if you drop something on it, it can break whatever you dropped because the tile is SOOO hard and dense! Or it breaks the tile. Or both. A PAIN to replace the tile, I think. So I would prefer the wood, I guess.
I have nice natural stone-looking vinyl, I love it!

If the room has lots of large windows, I'd go with slate. If it's more traditional, I'd go with wood. I would NOT want the tile. Too hard to clean the grout. I did stained and scored concrete in my house. There's nothing that's easier to maintain! And it's cheaper than carpet. I don't know where you live, but concrete floors are all the hot rage in the area where I live. They can do overlays of your old floor too, and you can finish it in any color. Just a thought for you. But based on your choices, I'd go with wood.

We used wood-look laminate. It looks and feels just like wood and is much, much easier to install and clean. It is also more resistant to scratches and other damage. Prego is one brand that's widely available, but there are lots of others that are good, too. Don't buy the cheap stuff where you have to put down a separate layer under it - that's a real pain, and the cheaper brands tend to be less durable. We are extremely happy with our laminate, and everyone thinks it's wood - you really can't tell by looking at it after it is installed. My husband put it in himself; we would have had to hire someone to lay a wood floor.

I think wood flooring is pretty. It's classic and I never seem to get tired of it while I do bore of tile quite easily. I would go with the wood.

Tile -- the rough times the Dining Room will experience from having to feed children DEMANDS tile -- because they scuff floors, will dig deep ruts into wood, rock back and forth in their chairs, drop the food, etc etc etc -- and tile -- well, it will stand up much better over the long run.

Wood. Dropping china on a tile floor will almost guarantee a breakage in both the china and the tile.

What the heck is this, Women: ? Do you think a man is not capable in answering this simple question or have the sense to make a good judgment call? I do most of the decorating and remodeling ideas in my home with the approval of my wife. And she has liked everything I have suggested. When friends come to our home we get high praise of our taste, with comments it looks like a home in a magazine. At this point I'm not even going to give you an answer should it be wood or tile. You are insulting to men.
