Both the Koran and the Torah have prohibitions against eating the flesh of cloven-hooved animals,i.e., pigs and a few other species you wouldn't think of eating anyhow. Some people say that the pig was viewed as unclean because they eat just about anything, but it's also a good idea for a nomadic people not to eat something that takes a long time to cook to eliminate the trichinosis bacteria that used to be common in pork.

RE:
Why don't muslims and jewish people eat pork?
what are all the reasons why muslims and jewish people don't eat pork? They probably have different reasons because they are of different religions. So what reasons does each religion have for not eating pork.
-- I myself don't eat pork, for reasons non-religious --

Not all Jewish people don't eat pork. It has to do with the difference between sects of Judaism. I had a very good friend who happened to be Jewish who would sit down at table with me and eat a fried pork chop with me. I think it goes back to the original scriptures though where it says that pork is unclean. Well, 2 or 3000 years ago I imagine that a lot of things were unsafe to eat because they had different cooking procedures than we do now. I am required for example to first rotate any chicken I recieve, then thaw it in a certain manner and then rinse it before it is cooked. That seems pretty simplistic to me especially as how chicken is one of the filthiest animals we harvest for our daily consumption. The thing is, in the world we live in now many foods are safer to eat because we know that bacteria is killed at 165 degrees Farenheit if that temp is maintained for at least 15 seconds. That doesn't kill spores but it does kill all bacteria that are "living". We also treat many pork products with salt now because salt retards or prevents the growth of bacteria. Bacon is one of the safest foods to eat as far as meats are concerned because it is salt cured. Salt kills bacteria, but it has to be a continuous presense of salt. That;s just my opinion...and I cook food for a living.

Well it used to be dangerous to risk eating pork. Back before refrigeration, if you ate pork that was even the slightest bit raw, you'd get sick and die. I think it also had to do with the cleanliness of the animal. Pigs eat a lot of things, and this type of meat didn't seem pure enough to put into your body. Religons back then were also public services, and it was easier to forbid eating pork than to explain that raw pork was dangerous.

Well, muslims believe that pigs are really filthy and are not healthy animals and so shouldn't be eaten. They are disgusting and not good for you. That's a definate
Another [possible] reason is from a story I heard... which leads to pigs and humans being related (like monkeys are related to humans). A cannibal once had to testify in court and he said the reason he ate humans is because they tasted like pork (i.e. nice)

There are more similarities between Islam and Judaism than there are between Islam and Christianity. Mohammed lived among Jews and borrowed many Jewish laws. The Hebrew Bible was written by Jews, for Jews, and about Jews. Jewish law never has applied to non-Jews. Christians have borrowed the Hebrew Bible, claiming that Jewish law applied to all of mankind until Paul negated nearly all of the 613 laws. Christians did everything possible to separate themselves from Jews (no laws, human god, a special place of eternal torment for non-Christians, a devil with powers equal to God) until the 20th century when they began to call themselves Jews (messianic and Jews for Jesus) in spite of worshiping a human god and practicing human sacrifice. Historically, Jews have fared better in the Muslim world than they have in Christian cultures. It has only been in the last century when Muslim extremists have turned on both Christians and Jews. .

Because the Jews and Muslims still follow the OT abrahaimic laws in accordance to food and food preparation. When Jesus established a new covenant, these food guidelines were no longer considered valid. At least they did not pertain to the gentiles who were included in those to be spared eternal damnation. not to mention when those particular laws were made, refridgeration was not yet invented:thus the possiblity of death through salmonilla and such was greater than it is today.

because their religions tell them so. the original reason behind this law was probably food hygiene, in both cases. judaism and islam are both religions that emerged in desert regions and were first adhered to by desert tribes. in a hot climate like that fat meat like pork goes off far faster than lean meat like beef, so essentially by coming up with this foodlaw moses/ mohammed/ god saved his followers from quite a lot of diarrhoea.
