YIKES - please don't toss out! Call the waste hauling company or your city - and they will direct you to a businesss that will accept it for free - and they will dispose of it properly. there is a lot of hazardous waste in a television, and there are federal and state laws in place to mandate the creation of businesses to accept these from you. I have never heard of a resident being charged; some businesses have to pay a disposal fee but never a resident.
Be kind to the Earth and get it recycled!

Call your city offices before you do anything. It may be against the law in your city to dispose of TV in the trash. They will have a recommendation. Even if it's not against the law, the TV contains hazardous materials harmful to the environment. Dispose of it properly.

I don't know what city you live in but call the city and ask them if they have a large item pickup and when it is. In Phoenix they do that several times a year and you can put old broken appliances and furniture in the alley and the city disposes of them.

They should be taken "somewhere". They contain lead, tin, gold, silver (forget it! Theres not enough of either to matter), phosphors. Not good for the environment.

there probably is a special place where you can drop it off or you probably could sell it because someone could probably use some parts out of it since it is busted.
