Some try to say Christ took all spiritual power with Him when
He left. But the Book of Acts said when He left He" took
CAPTIVITY captive, and GAVE gifts to men."
We all have spiritual power. But those adept in its use say
just like Christ. "If we say to a mountain move, and do not DOUBT, it will move."
He may have spoken figuratively, as a mountain is symbolic
of an obstacle. But the bottom line is, it doesn't work unless
we eliminate those nagging doubts in the back of our minds.
Through prayer, affirmations, and practice. It is not knowledge
that is evil. Wicked people use spiritual knowledge to control
others. Righteous people use knowledge to gain self-control.

Their powers were based on faith in God. Since they walked with Him and ate with Him, their faith was largely based on watching Him do what He did. I say largely, because one of the apostles only met Him in a vision. This indicates to me that their powers are available to us today.

I have seen things happen that could qualify as such miracles but why doesn't the news cover these things?

Probably because so much of this is faked by false disciples. And a news agency doesn't want to be caught in promoting a dupe story they fell for. Its to the point now where they present these things as "wild claims"

Generally they center their focus on the obviously fake stuff. The result is that all of Christianity has a public image of fanatics.

The Apostles are dead now. Their special gifts were buried with them. Other gifts exist but not the raising of the dead kind the Apostles did through the Spirit.

The Apostles are different from every day disciples. The Apostles went and started their own churches, at least some of them.
