Gum pain with or with seeing blood can cause more unpleasant illness in other parts of body if you have an infected area it is thought. I would rinse mouth with warm salt water 1/2 tesp several times a day also oil of clove or a clove (in the spice section) is helpful for some.. ( hold it over the sore place ).your teeth are precious and should be given proper care. there are low cost dental clinics in some lg teaching hospitals...

If it's a canker sore, you can use orajel, but it only lasts about 20-30 minutes on each application.

If you have severe gum pain, use ibuprofen (motrin or advil).

If you have sever pain, and your gum is inflated, use ibuprofen and consult a dentist as quicly as possible because you might need antibiotics.

You can buy Adult Orajel at any drugstore or most Dollar Stores.

Oil of cloves works too, as well as peppermint.

Or a rub some bourbon on the gum.

A friend recently had a similar issue... She went to the emergency room and they gave her a shot in the mouth (something like Novocaine I would imagine) and a few painkillers. It helped until she could get into the dentist.
