because the media sensationalized pitbulls so much (especially in CA), it will always be your dogs fault. I would sue the person first before they tried to sue you. That is probably the only way to protect yourself and your dog.

Some states not only have leash laws but muzzle laws as well. It can vary by state or by county's in that state. I personally know that as one of your other answers stated that if you didn't do enough to break it up you could be responsible. Well owning and breeding Pit Bulls I know that there is only one thing you can do and that is look for the chance to pull them apart when they let go. In alot of states if you have what they call a "breaking stick" that is viewed as fight paraphernalia and you could face charges for having one. I kept the old mop handle the kids broke so if I ever nee to use it I have something. Go to the American Dog Breeder Association web site and see if they have any info. for you that may help. In my opinion any dog no matter what breed that is out in public and not leashed, then attacks another animal of any kind is the one at fault, or should I say the Owner for not caring enough for there pet as well as others. Good Luck!!

I would call animal control and ask or look at the CA laws on www.aspca.org, but personally I would say no because the Pit was leashed and the other dog was not. I know CA has leash laws!

No by having your dog on a leash means that you were in control of your dog. The wner of the other dog is 100% guilty.

You shouldn't be - you were responsible and the other dog's owner wasn't. It would help to have witnesses that at least saw your dog on a leash sometime that day. . .

your dog was in its own yard chained up and got attacked by a dog not on a leash, your dog is in the right here. that happened to my pit only there were 3 other dogs, she got hurt and was swollen but she won, and she is fine now. so no you are not responsible for anything.

The other dog would be toast as I walk different APBT`s. I have never had that happen, I guess other dogs can sense it would not be a wise thing to do. I carry a breaking stick just in case . A few of my dogs just ignore other dogs because they pose no threat .

any dog not on a leash will be the offending party and its owner will be liable. This is assuming that your city does not have a pit bull ban because of it does then you can be made to get rid of your pit.

This should (should) be easy to answer, but and there is always a but. I would say that if the other dog owner can prove that you didn't do enought to break up the dogs, yes you could be held responsible.
