AVG Free.

I use all of these.
Antiviral. (free)

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

Spycatcher

C Cleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

I used to pay $30.00 each year for Norton and aways had tons of conflicts.

Three years into AVAST on 2 computers NEVER once a problem.

Virus definitions update daily automatic, it's great.

Windows Defender. It caught a keylogger program that I had (intentionally) installed on my computer when all my other anti-virus/spyware programs missed it.

To be on the safeside, I'd also use AntiVir Guard, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spycatcher. You can't be too safe these days...

ANTIVIR!

I've used it for more than 6 years now. It really-really works. 100% free (personal edition), and update of vdf is automatic. It's very easy to use, just like install and forget! (though remember to open the umbrella in your system tray).

A lot of ones are good. But in my opinion avg is the best free one. You should geta free firewall if you don't have one already.
