Young babies and kittens explore their world with their mouths -- they are oral.

When the kitten bites or swats (1) pick him up gently and hiss in his face (that's what mother cats do to correct their kittens) (2) say a firm 'NO!", and (3) put him away from you.

Do not play with a kitten with your hands, nor allow your children to do so. Always use an interactive toy like a cat dancer or feather toy.

Kittens need to learn that human hands are for stroking and loving, that they are not toys.

Spray bottles are overused and not the way to deal with this problem. Save that for staying away from the door leading to the outside or to get them off countertops.

You're right, he is a baby. And babies play with bites and swats, but when you've had enough, might I point out a trick Mom Cats use to control kittens that get out of hand? When Baby starts up his little tricks put your hand firmly by the scruff of his neck, just a little pressure will do, shake gently and say "No". Not loudly, but firmly. A couple of times should do it. If not, try the same thing but then put him on the floor. He'll get the idea. Yep, he's only a baby, but you're now Mom and you need to remain the Alpha Mom-Cat. Blessings on you all.

Ah yes.

For me, what worked was: make a noise of pain when he bites (to startle him); then hiss at him to show you're displeased (sometimes saying "No!" or "No biting!" in a firm commanding voice will work too - depends on how much he accepts your authority... so for me cat language is good enough, thus the hissing); if he persists, take your hand away; if he _still_ persists, walk out of the room and close the door. And don't let him ever scratch or bite you on purpose (in the middle of play, when I'm making him chase a mouse I'm holding, it's acceptable - sometimes - but not catching my hand with claws or something), without doing some of those things.

You kitten has to learn you _don't_ allow biting human hands, period.

BUT! you have to offer something he is allowed to bite. Like, after hissing at mine, I will offer a toy he is allowed to bite (I got him a stuffed _baby safe!_ toy almost as big as him to wrestle with - he outgrew it, of course, but it's still usable), so that he will be able to vent his predator instincts at something that is OK with you. Most behavior cats display is perfectly reasonable; one just has to consistently redirect it to acceptable targets.

Good luck!

Try a spray bottle of water. When he bites lightly spray him he will than associate the water with biting and quit. As far as swatting he is a kitten this is what they do. Get him a toy or get him declawed. Only declaw him if you are sure he will always be inside and you plan to keep him forever.

the 1st element to do, is to end using your palms as toys, using fact this might instruct him that your flesh is honest interest at any time. purchase a toy that dangles off the tip of a wand stick, so as that he could be as tough as he likes with that and your palms are out of his attain. the subsequent time he bites you throughout the time of play, tell him "no" or hiss at him (hissing reawakens thoughts of mom cat's self-discipline and could make maximum cats back off.) If he would not end biting on the instant, tell him "no" lower back, gently pass him aside and walk away. via ignoring him, you're coaching him that the relaxing stops while he gets too tough. while he does play gently, make specific to make a great fuss of him and supply him nutrition rewards. Cats are clever, and quickly learn how to undertake behaviour that reward them in some way. he continues to be a youthful cat and prefer numerous infants, he's making an attempt out the barriers on the 2d to work out what he can wreck out with. He already knows to decrease his roughness with your husband, yet consistent with danger pushes his success a touch greater with you, on account which you are the maternal parent. (The kneading is likewise a demonstration that he perspectives you this way.) With love and staying power, you could instruct him sturdy manners. desire this helps.

This may seem to be a little harsh but you can try putting tobasco on your hand when he is in a biteing mood. that or spray a 'bitter lime' or 'bitter apple' deterant spray in your hand. also when he bites and swats put your hand swiftly but gently on his neck/sholder without grabbing and force him to roll onto his belly and make a slight growling noise or hissing noise to alow him to understand 'thats enough! Your playing to rough!' also rubbing him in a circular motion can help to calm him down, chest ears belly(if he will let you) and top of head. Another thing that calms new and semi-wild cats down is to isolate them to a room for a day. they grow bored and will want attenchion afterwards. I hope this helps you.

If he is still kitten a stern "NO" works best. Also try a folded up newspaper. Don't hit the cat but he won't like the noise of the crinkling newspaper or the hitting the floor with it. Chances are he's just playing but keep on him with the "NO's"
