I just moved to a new city, and I'd like to get into the dating scene. I really haven't been here very long, and I'm moving this weekend to a new apartment. Once I'm settled, I'd like to go out and date. What types of places have you had the most success in? I've rarely met someone substantial at a nightclub, for instance.

You are correct on nightclubs, dance clubs, discos and the like, but don't rule out the friendly neighborhood bar and grill. It has a much different vibe and typically not the 'meat market' places clubs are. Go early to meet the after work crowd or on football nights, etc. Make friends with the staff and the nice old retired guy that sits at the bar, they'll tell you who's good date material and who's to be kept away from.

I have always found people to be really not very conversational at coffee places like Starbucks, but much more so at the bohemian local coffee houses. Bring a book or magazine and at the very least you will have a good read.

Like music or art? Get the weekend 'what's up' guide in every city and attend some events and then volunteer at ones you like. You meet a lot of cool people and get invited to parties and meet all the cool people friends!

Go back to school and take some classes on stuff you missed the first time.

Church. OK, I really don't go to church a whole lot but I do go to all the social events and fairs!

Private parties and BBQ. Hey, it's football season and lot's of young couples have football parties and there are single guys there. Find these parties and go.

OK, here's a list of places I have met women that I dated (before I found the one for me, of course!):

Playing football in the park (friend of another player's wife)
Work (don't recommend this, but hell we do it anyway, right?)
Sister of a guy from work (also, not a good idea)
Woman I met at a party of a friend of a guy from work (ok)
Fellow volunteer at a museum
Daughter of another museum volunteer (her Mom fixed us up)
3 different people I met doing United Way volunteer work.
Walking the dog (puppys are chick magnets! lol)
Woman I met in line at the bank
One I used to see at the cleaners
One I used to see in the neighborhood grocery

I have never met anyone at Home Depot, but I have noticed quite a few good looking women there on Saturdays!

Not sure if this will work for you, but I have a friend that has a sister thats a elementary school teacher that hooked him up with a single mom of one of her students...they got married a few weeks ago.....

See if there are any single clubs. I know that some church's have single services. You could start there. Good luck on your move and meeting someone.
