Somebody recently postulated that it is the Devil who is pretending to be God, and the religious among us are being fooled. Sounds possible given that this planet is replete with natural and man-made disasters. Would a kindly god allow this to happen?

What makes you think that the creator is not involved with our worldly concerns? Is it because there are ax killers in world? Death? Child molesters? War?
Have you ever seen a baby's face when you take something away from them? Their face erupts into the most profound kind of grief one can witness; red-faced and bawling, they will often throw themselves onto the floor, as though the very end of the world had come! Perhaps, if the creator is usefully depicted as a father, it may be because he (if I must use a gender pronoun) knows, as a parent (and we, as tiny children), that what seems to be the end of the world is not actually the end of the world.
Have you ever been through childbirth? Each pregnancy I had was longer than the last--it was awful! But it was amazing to me, each time, that once the baby was born, all was well and the pain no longer mattered at all.
Perhaps the creator knows that all this--however heartbreaking it may be in the moment--is just as short and as temporary as a bad dream, and just as meaningless once it is all over.
Perhaps the creator, being a supremely loving being, will bring us all together once this life is over, and this life's lessons are learned. Good luck on your search!

What do you think right now is happening in the world? Did he not say that He will put his anger to those obstinate ones ?Do you believe that the unrest happening around all manmade? Why is nature suddenly acting unpredictable. Weather bureaus and storm trackers sees everything coming but even they are surprise to see such phenomena almost everywhere. Why are they not able to prepare for Katrina, the Tsunami in the Far East Volcanic eruptions in many places almost one after another just this last two years? That is His involvement and maybe you know and feel the answer why. I am not a doomsday person and I don't believe in the destructive end of the world but this are signs enough for me to know His anger and His involvement.

I think Christ believes "you make your bed you sleep in it". The lost dont get the attention (wether good or bad) from God His followers do. If your not saved you dont and wont understand. If your washed by the blood of Jesus you see, feel, and know God is moving weather prophetically or individually. I would assume your talking about all the pain and suffering in the world. it brings me back to the comment at the beginning, "you make your bed, you sleep in it" But the bible (in epesians) also says you reap what you so and this is to the whole world. I know you understand those 2 comments but being on the side of salvation (if your not) you cant and wont understan until the Holy Spirit calls you and you obey.

Dear Sara:
Ahh . . .the big question for many, many people.
Primarily, because His Plan for us provided a Holy Spirit Who would be our Conscience, Comforter and Guide. And, a Teacher of all Teachers - the first to complete his role Perfectly, Jesus. Jesus also serves as an intercessor for us to the Holy Spirit Who also has the function of being a mechanism for miracles.
Miracles are interactions that occur seemingly outside of time and space. In other words, they by-pass the Laws of the Physical world and obey the Laws of Eternity.
The Separation occurred. And a Plan for our Return was instituted by the Father instantly and simultaneously. In the interim of physical experience and our Return, The Father keeps us safe and secure by not looking directly upon our physical selves involved in physical ACTIONS. Therefore, He never judges against us. Instead He remains focused on the Reality He Created - a Kingdom of spirit-minds likened to Himself. We are OF God, but not God. In this focus : steadfast, non-swerving - He exemplifies Devotion. For if He focused on this chaotic world of separate, individual beings, all acting "special" and excluding others, His Great Power to Manifest Thought, would cause this physical experience to become REAL. His focus can cause reality. We would be lost to Him, for physical bodies are perishable and die. There would be no soul to leave the body at death - for the body and its mind would be real. Further, our guilts and "sins" would be real also. This world was never granted Reality. Only His Creation in Eternity, is Real.
Many believe that God Created this world, and us in the physical. The Bible's oral tradition speaks of Creation in Genesis. But God Created a non-physical world and this world arose in the Separation. We are safe because He does not focus on this world, but remains focused on what He truly Created. Jesus and the Holy Spirit handle everything else!

So, just because you don't see an outcome you think God is capable of, you assume He's not involved? Me thinks you need to realize the God of the universe is VERY patient. If he turned from his current facing away stance you would find him with a drawn bow aimed straight at your heart. He is loving enough to stay faced away at this point. When he turns around, it will be because He's VERY VERY angry. I don't want to be here to see that.

The only answer is:
We don't know.
It sure would be nice if God were more apparent.
But -- even when he was around, there were whole generations in which he spoke only to those who were waving bits of flayed beef around or sprinkling blood on a leather seat.

But He is!!! there are several reasons He intervenes in our lives.
1. We ask Him to from a position of agreeing with His purpose.
2. We screw up so bad that He cannot ignore our tendencies to self destruct until His plan comes to full fruition.
3. Somebody else asks in our behalf from a position of agreeing with His purpose.

HE probably is but we tend not to listen to what the creator has given us. We tend to look at what the creator has not given us. Sometimes we must help ourselves and others.
