Why is it a felony to drop off a litter of kittens and leave them at a vet's office......but ok to drop off a human baby at a police station or a fire station??!!?? There are safe haven laws for human baby. So why would a town spend money and time trying to find someone and arrest them for dropping off a litter of kittens????!!!That is better than drowning them ....don't you think?? Some people have their priorities screwed up.

Just for the record --they are not MY kittens. Actually I do not care for cats but think that killing them is wrong and cruel. So all of you who wrote saying that I should not have children sure do jump to conclusions.

I'm almost banking on the fact that this person isn't using the word "felony" in the sense that all of you are using it. I think the person is trying to say "Why is it soooooo damn wrong?" But I may be wrong in this assumption...

That being said...I agree with what you are saying. I volunteer for a no kill animal shelter (the only in our area) and people bring us their unwanted animals all the time. I think there is a difference between dropping off (doing it in the middle of the night, etc.) and bringing them to a vet or shelter. I have to admit...after hearing some of the STUPID comments made by the people bringing us their animals, we are more than glad to take them because with the people you never know what will happen to them.

I studied to be a cop, worked at a police department that got calls of abandoned litters and also worked at a vet's office...I've never heard of this being a felony. If this is true, I think part of the difference is the "ok" places to leave a baby typically have someone there for 24/7...most vets don't. If someone can't care for a litter of kittens, they should have their cat spayed, and take the kittens to the animal shelter. Leaving a litter anywhere that doesn't have someone there at the time leaves them open to attack from wild animals, and likely to get sick or die from the temperature/weather. Considering most animal abusers see little or no jail time, I have a hard time believing that abandoning them would be a felony.

I think it is wrong that it is considered a felony in some states. I can't see why a vet's office, animal shelter or humane society won't take a litter of puppies or kittens. They should because some of the alternatives are horrible. And just dropping them off near a home is wrong as well as drowning them. The best thing for any pet owner is to spay or neuter their pets.

It's not a felony but it is a misdemeanor. If you don't want the kittens give them away or take them to an animal shelter. It's very easy. If you just abandon the kittens in a bag or drop them in a river or whatever you do then yeah you'll go to jail for animal cruelty. As for human babies....same goes for them. They have shelters for them to be droped off at for mother/fathers who can't take care of them at local hospitals. I think that should be a crime but it's not. You shouldn't open your legs if you didn't want the kid...thats how i fell about it. Same on the kittens...shouldn't have left the mother cat outside to get screwed. Get your life together then get a pet or a baby but the way you sound you shouldn't have either.

You have an interesting point. One would think that by droping off a box of kittens on the vets doorstep, it'd be ok..Seeing as how they would get help and be placed up for adoption. I have to agree with you that some people have there priorities screwed up. I'd rather see them dropped off at the vet's then in a ditch, along side the road, in a culvurt. But then again that's just my thinking.

I didn't think it would be a felony, and normally people drop off animals to a shelter if they want to get rid of them. I think they should pass a law like they have for babies that you can drop animals off at vets offices or other locations, so that they are not abused or mistreated.

.Why is it the veterinarian's responsibility to take care of your cat's kittens and find homes for them? It is your responsibility to spay your cat!

Abandonment of an animal is probably just a misdemeanor. People move and leave dogs tied up in the back yard. People move out of apartments and houses and leave cats and dogs locked inside. If someone doesn't find them they die of starvation.

I am glad there is some penalty for this despicable behavior.

At least the baby will get taken care of. Probably put up for adoption or put in foster care. The kittens will be put to sleep because people are too ignorant to get their animals spayed or neutered, knowing how many animals there are waiting to find good homes.

Because of the issue of strays. Dropping cats off somewhere might cause them to get free and go stray. Stray animals are a HUGE problem. Stray dogs can be as dangerous ans wolves, and stray cats can be as troublesome as raccoons.

Stray babies are not so much of a problem. you will very rarely get you face mauled off by a stray baby.

why keep a cat if you can't love them? and i find it very good they should have the same laws that they have for human baby's.
