What does "rotc" mean? I'm not up on these abbreviations and I'm younger than your daughter! And what about "h.s.?"
Anyway, I believe that you should ignore what everone else believes; if people believe that a mother and daughter shouldn't be close and have a close, loving relationship, then THEY'RE ALL WEIRD. Of course a mother and daughter should be "best friends!" A mother is the best friend she can have, a friend for basically life, but she should also have other friends her age. No matter what, always be your daughter's friend, because you're the greatest influence and role model she'll probably ever have. And for those who just don't have the brains to understand your relationship...TOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

I don't think it's funny at all! Nor is it wrong! You did a marvelous job of raising that child to be loving, good, respectful and communicative. You should be so proud of that child(and I bet you are!!) My mother is the same way...very understanding and very loving. Most of my friends have called her the Second Mom (and some their first Mom). Of course there is a generation gap...you and I are almost the same age (I'm 44) and my mother is 72. She's my very best friend.(by the way: I'd never consider hating my mother.) Blessings on you and your wonderful daughter!

Don't listen to what other people have to say. THATS GREAT! Like you said some kids don't even like their mothers. Its good that you both can be honest with each other. Watch what I tell you its gonna be them same people who are hating that you and your daughter are so close that be the ones who daughter/son get pregnant or do drugs at a young age. Keep up the good work. MA! LOL

No, my son and I were and still are very close. He lives a 1000 miles away and calls just about every day, many days more then once.
We had our ups and downs and he knew I was the one who made the decisions, and I disciplined him, but in the back of his mind, he knew what I did, I did for his own good and I wasn fair and right. So be a disciplinarian did not hurt our relationship.
You are lucky, I am lucky, I know people who live in the same house with their kids and they don't talk to them.

One in a million, comes to mind. Count your blessings.
For some weird reasons, that I being a mere guy, have no idea of the why, so many mothers and daughters don't get along.
So you count your blessings, I just wish my Mom and sister, got a long. They do for about a month, then it's back to the war.
Drives me crazy.
How can I get along with them both, and them with me, but they can't get along with each other. Where is Freud when you need him?

There's nothing wrong with that. You're just a lucky mom who has a great daughter with good values and who appreciates you. I have one daughter who's only 3yrs old now but I sure hope and pray to God she turns out as good as yours did. You are a very lucky woman !

I think you and her are very lucky. I am 15 and my mom passed away when I was 14. I wish she was back even though we weren't always the closest. Without her, I am very attention starved and get in trouble all the time. My dad is usually lenient with me but he is really starting to lower the boom.
And you were right about most girls around our age hating their moms.

I think you are very lucky, so enjoy it. It took being married and having a child for my mom and I to become close.
I am a mother to a 12yr old son, so I'm a little jealous not having the mom/daughter fun.
