A liberal is someone who believes in minimal government regulation of personal liberties, and supports adaptation and change as the way to deal with new situations, rather than regulation and restriction.
Many liberals, but not all, support social programs to help those who are in need of help, whether government-backed or private charities, as part of being one unified nation. Many liberals advocate for higher taxes and big government programs to support these goals, but many other liberals oppose big government and want to find other solutions that achieve the same objectives without raising taxes.
Most liberals oppose rampant senseless violence, including overseas deployment of US troops where there is not a clear benefit to the US in the process. In other words, they support a Department of Defense, not a Department of War. In fact, post-WW2 that was the impetus to rename the department from War to Defense, to focus more on the needs of the American people.
Many liberals also support greater international relations, international trade, and collaborative efforts with other govts, believing that the world has grown to large and too complex to be isolationists or to handle everything internally. Sometimes this is taken to extreme, and unilateral solutions are opposed simply because they are unilateral. But the same can be said for any ideal.
The biggest complaint that conservatives have against liberals is that liberals do not believe in negative discrimination against others, whether based on race or gender or status or sexual orientation. To many conservatives, that means that liberals come off as too tolerant of differences, and too willing to accommodate people in support of diversity. The most blatant example is the same-sex marriage debate, where conservatives want to limit marriage based on gender-discrimination because "that's they way it's always been done".
To a liberal, the phrase "that's they way it's always been done" is meaningless, because a liberal thinks decisions should be made based only on what's going on now, not on how things were done in the past.

It's not about being Liberal or conservative. Also not about being a Republicans or a Democrat. It's about money and power. It's also about what is really good for America. It's about facts.
I do not support spending $2 trillion on the war in Iraq. I do not support the death of 2650 brave Americans in service. I do not support the wounding of over 20,000. I do not support the death of over 300,000 civilians in Iraq. I also do not think a $9 trillion debt ran up by Republicans over the next ten years is good for America, the working class are forced to pay for the Republicans mistakes.
Sept. 11th. was the greatest failure of our Government in the History of our nation to protect Americans, Bush was told by PDB that terrorist would attack the USA and he was told they would use hi jacked Comm. planes to do it. Bush was also told by PDB that the terrorist were already in this country, in the USA we fire failures. Bin laden and Al quaeda are still in Afghanistan not Iraq. We have seven times more troops in Iraq as we do in Afghanistan now. No terrorist on earth would face our marines in a fare fight, none, they are all cowards, they do the dirty work behind our backs. Just like Nam. Do you remember the stakes they put in the rice fields?
BTW, Government is bigger under Bush not smaller as i would like it to be. Government is also more intrusive now under Bush than ever in our History. I also do not support abortion or gun control or Gays and lesbians getting married. These are non issues the conservatives, who are Neocons, like to bring up when you point out their own failures and lies.

A liberal is a person who thinks killing babies is right and killing murderers is wrong. A liberal is someone who thinks to solve a problem throw money at the problem in large quantities. A liberal is someone whose last good idea came from FDR. A liberal is someone who thinks that we can talk the terrorists into not attacking us. A liberal is someone who thinks the government knows how to spend your money better than you do. A liberal is someone who thinks attacking the sitting president is the right thing to do.
Thank you for your service to this great country. This is something else a liberal would not do.

coragryph says: A liberal is someone who believes in minimal government regulation of personal liberties. That is a libertarian. Liberals actually believe in more government regulation of everything. They are dangerous because they support policies that will aid and encourage terrorists.

Liberal doesn't mean that they are against government, or unpatriotic. It just means that they want dramatic change - not liking the way things are being handled by the government.
Of course the Bush Administration HATES "liberals", because they hate people standing in the way of how they want to do things.
They will say that Liberals are dangerous...even as dangerous as terrorists. But what they mean is that Liberals are detrimental to how they want to run things.

Liberals are people who are usually more intelligent and better educated than the average American. They are more tolerant of others and they don't want to force their own narrowminded belief system onto others.
What bothers me about all the name calling that comes out of George Bush's mouth is, this latest use of the word "Fascist". The only way he can get away with it is, the average American is too lazy or too stupid to look up the meaning of "Fascist" and prefer to just take the hate word and name calling by the Bush Whitehouse and the drooling religious right morons who are pulling his chain.
"FASCISM.. A system of extreme RIGHT WING Dictatorial Government."..
YOU KNOW... the type of Government the Christian RELIGIOUS RIGHT WING that is running the country through God's Appointed Messenger here on earth (Bush)
For Bush to call the Muslims and, especially the Islamic fighters by the name of "Islamic Facists" or "Islamofacists"... seems a bit like the skillet calling the pot black, to me.

i wonder the same thing,it seems though that Conservatives are anti-American racist people who think that because you don't like something, want something protected or feel the 5% of rich Americans do not need to pay any higher taxes and that the middle class should pay more because.....well their middle class,.....funny the conservatives are in power and they have done nothing the help this great country, any time a group tell you another group is wrong....well that's like the clan saying it bad to be black,or what ever......i just hope that someone who it sounds defended this country is being treated like you should...a heroic patriot...putting ones life in front of their country is truly an patriot, and should be treated as such.....so thank you for your protection and honor...................................
