Q. How many calories make 1 pound of weight?
About 3,500 calories adds up to about 1 pound. This applies whether they are food calories coming in, or calories (burned by exercise) going out.
If you eat 3,500 calories more than your body needs, you will put on about 1 pound. If you use up 3,500 calories more than you eat, you will lose about 1 pound in weight.

You would have to run the equivalent of 3,500 calories to lose a pound of fat. At a pace of 5.3 mph (a slow to moderate jogging pace), this is about 4 hours. You will not lose any inches directly from doing situps, as there is no such thing as spot reduction. To lose inches, you should continue to burn calories (such as you do when you run).

A pound of fat has 3500 calories. Running burns about 100 calories per mile, a little more or less depending on your weight. So you could burn 1 pound in 35 miles.

It depends on your body type, metabolism and how much you weigh. I would exercise sensibly, eat sensibly and let your body do its thing. You will be far healthier if you stop focusing on the number of pounds you want to lose and simply adopt a sensible lifestyle. That lifestyle will stay with you throughout your life and keep you healthy--even into old age.
