I was a public school student.... I would never want to be homeschooled, nor would I want to do that to my children. Every homeschooled child I have EVER met has been basically "socially retarded," They don't know how to enteract with other people, specifically strangers and they tend to be generally strange people. I would never shelter my children by homeshooling them, it is very important to be out in the real world and be apart of it at a young age.

My daughter is in college. She was homeschooled for her entire K thru 12 career. The college accepted her without any GED. It is a community college and she is in the Animal Science transfer program with a State University. Her attendance relied solely on the scores of the placement test administered by the college.
Last Spring my daughter along with a friend sat and listened to their own equestrian team and parents from the public high school discuss "homeschoolers". They were saying pretty much the same biased misinformation that we read in this Q & A forum... They were afraid of non-socialization etc..... All of the group in the conversation had forgotten that my daughter and the other girl were BOTH home school graduates. The two smiled at each other and graciously explained how much they like home-schooling. Both girls were THE favorites on the team. They were the most popular among everyone --- not in a bragging way but due to the fact that they talked to all of the other people; students and parents and leaders. They helped everyone all of the time and received many of the awards and trophies for their accomplishments and skill with the horses.

I'm 22 and was homeschooled for four years in highschool. I liked the experience so much I'm going to homeschool my kids too at www.thegraceacademy.org. It's an online homeschool. Since I work, it's a little easier to stay on top of my kids lessons with an online program.

My kids are young, 6 and 9, but do enjoy homeschooling. Neither one has any interest in going to school at this point.
I know a lot of kids who homeschool and wouldn't change it for the world. Some have always been homeschooled, others were pulled out of school. One 15yo girl I know has been homeschooled for three years now and will do so for the next three years, graduating with a provincial high school diploma. She liked public school until 3rd grade, then suffered for 3-6. She does not want to go back to public school. She wanted to be homeschooled starting in 4th grade but it took some time for her parents to decide to pull her.
She is involved in sports activities and now has friends through those who wish they could homeschool, too.

I went to public school and I would never do that to my children. In middle school I was jumped several times just for being white and being there. The teachers, for the most part, were uncaring and didn't even know the subject they were teaching. I only remember a few teachers that I had through out school.
How was public school?
Let's see-my 3rd grade teacher slapped my hand with the sharp side of a ruler, drawing blood, because I sneezed.
I can only remember 2 of the teachers I had all through middle school, one of which I'm still in contact with. The rest didn't care enough to learn how my name is pronounced.
In high school, we were forced to take a crap load of electives we didn't need, just to keep us there and busy for 7 hours or so. I only had a few teachers there that I remember. Plus we had to inhale our lunches that were full of fat and preservatives.
Not to mention, if you aren't a snotty little rich kid, your life is made miserable for what you don't have. You have to fight pressure to take drugs, have sex and act foolish in order to fit in.
Plus, I had to argue with a math teacher that couldn't even add and come up with a simple average. And he was teaching Algebra!
And don't even get me started on the bus!
My children are being homeschooled. They will be homeschooled until such time they can make an informed decision to go to school. My children are well behaved, well mannered, very social children. We go to playgroups, the Y, the zoo, the scouts, all sorts of places where they meet up with other kids.
Those that say homeschooled kids are social retards either a) get their opinions from biased media or b) only know about 2 or 3 of them.
I wish my mom would have homeschooled me...

i've got not had a bad homeschooling journey, yet needed to declare how sorry i'm that your mom left you domicile on my own like that. It might desire to have been very painful. i'm happy you had 4 stable years of homeschooling nevertheless, and that i agree that for the time of the journey that your mom could not have been in touch, you may desire to have had the choice to return to public faculties. besides, make new friends! no one retains up with their friends from severe college, I made such rather some new ones in college, and in reality, my terrific friends are human beings I met after my infants have been born through fact I even have had extra journey and understand who i'm and the place my actual values lie. Dr Phil could say end the blame game and attach the matters. You sound like a extremely clever and nicely-spoken guy or woman, and that i'm particular you could gain any objective you like!

No way would I EVER go to public school if I had the choice! Being home-schooled is the best thing that ever happened to me! I am in no way "socially retarded", I have more friends than I know what to do with, and that's not because I'm pretty or popular, because I'm not. I think the idea that home-schoolers are "socially retarded" and can't make friends, comes from the media and trying to make our country believe that stuff. In many communities, home-schooled families connect and their kids all become friends. And for them to say that home-schooled kids don't get a proper education! We have to take the SAME tests that any public schooled kid has to take to graduate. Home-schoolers ALWAYS test out way above the national average for public schools. I hope this proved informative!

I used to be homeschooled, for many years, and my mom called me a social butterfly. I liked homeschooling a lot, but my mom got too busy and couldn't teach me, and I'm not very good at learning just by reading which is mostly all I could do on my own. and also my mom and I started arguing a lot and still do to this day, so it just wasn't working anymore, so now I'm at public schools. It works, but I wish I could still be homeschooled, I considered going back to it this year but I didn't...I decided just to graduate a year early instead.

I'm home schooled, and I would NEVER EVER want to even visit a public school.I enjoy not having to get at 7 am,sitting in a classroom with a bunch of kids, who probably wouldn't like me,for 7 hours,THEN having to go home to another 3hours of homework! Its mad I tell you,MAD! anyways,I'm 14,and will be home schooled until 12 grade(thank goodness),and then I'll look into taking some local community college classes on things that interest me,or find a husband, whichever comes first,LOL.

I'm trying to get myself set-up for a homeschool program online. I hate my public school.
I'd definetly rather be homeschooled. People is public schools are so....I dont know. They form their little groups and all of this unneccessary drama and BS. Sick of it.
I'll never send my kids to a public school. Definetly to a private one.
