I have noticed that most celebrities like to attach themselves to any number of causes, and then by default, they think everyone in the world should be just as passionate or concerned about it as they are. For instance Bono and Africa, Cindy and Cancer, etc...
I guess my question is really why should I be prodded to caring about something because one famous person thinks I should. Seriously, I have my own concerns - for me it's the destruction of the world's reef systems, but I'm not out there cramming it down the public's throat and expecting everyone to get as excited about it as I am. How all you celebrities just donate all your millions to your own cause, shut your mouth, and let the rest of us normal folks give in the way we can to what we feel concerned and passionate about.

You shouldn't care about something just because some celebrity does. However, people tend to listen to celebrities and take after them. Cancer is a disease that can effect ANYONE. It effects many people, not just those diagnosed. Behind each person diagnosed is a family and friends. And unfortunately, one day you may be one of those family or friends who knows someone who is diagnosed. You may not care about it now, but trust me when I say you start to care when someone close to you is diagnosed. It is this way with all diseases.

You shouldn't make cancer research a priority because of Cindy. You should do your part because EVERYONE on the face of the earth either knows someone with cancer... knows someone who died from cancer , or has been diagnosed themselves. That is why we should all make it a priority. By the way I lost my mother, 2 grandmothers, and a good friend to cancer. I know 4 people right now who are fighting for their lives. I am lucky, so far no cancer in me.

You shouldn't be prodded to care about anything, apparently. Paris and Lindsey and all of the other fly-by-night "celebrities" with stupid ridiculous pet causes (animal sanctuaries anyone?)have ruined it for people like Cindy Crawford who have been quietly doing things behind the scenes for years without anyone questioning her motives. I don't doubt her sincerity - and cancer is a great cause. Someday sadly we will all be dealing with it, statistically speaking. I plan to give my money to causes that I have experience with, and not because some celebrity told me to, but I sure don't see a problem with anyone trying to do something as noble as curing cancer. By the way, my 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in 1997 and is celebrating her 10th year as a survivor.

DumbAss! Are you kidding me? Cindy Crawford is a style!!!! i'm not even particular she extremely knows what maximum cancers is;. Sh'e not a well being care service or a researcher... She is purely promotion some organizations and communities to augment information for most cancers... not remedy will come of it.

We are not EXPECTED to make Cancer a priority just because Cindy thinks it should be, rather, we are privileged to explore the seriousness of this disease just by being exposed to her efforts to enhance public awareness. Celebrities, by their very nature have the means to bring mundane, or daily trivialites to our attention for further thought. It's not being jammed down our throats at all. It is simplemindedness like this that brings efforts to make the general public actually THINK about something other than themselves a moot point (and effort). Kudos to Cindy and shame on you!

I think you are right about everyone having their own causes, and yours is as good as the next. I think everyone shoulde make cancer a priority for themselves. It is no big deal, until it is your death sentence staring you in the face. If we all took accountability for ourselves and the consequences of how we live, we may not have as many causes for celebrities to "shove down our throats".

Cancer is a stress disease according to
research. We live in a very stressful world
and we need to assess what is a main source
of stress in our lives and work to reduce it's
affect on us physically and spiritually. Cancer is also a disease promoted by environmental factors that impact us from our immediate
environment. Just toxic pesticides and fumigants serve to increase our chances for
developing cancers due to their subtle and
long term impacts on our physical well being.
We are subject to carcinogens daily from our
contact with household domestic cleaning
agents and pesticides that are used on a
regular basis in the maintainenance of our
homes. These elements need to be looked at
and the government needs to regulate their
use more adequately.

Cancer will affect either the person or a dear family member. We are not immune to this horrible disease. You never know who is going to be next. This is a serious thing and it effects everyone who knows, or is related to the the innocent victim who has to deal with cancer of whatever kind.

I don't think it should be a priority because ANY celebrity or Politician says so.
I believe cancer should be a priority because more than one in three people will experience it in their lifetime.
If you have friends or relatives, chances are VERY high that Cancer will kill one (or more) of them.
