My broadband is 100MBps but Ive just downloaded limewire and its downloading at 1kbps!!! ridiculous! I've set the settings to allow maximum broadband to download and my firewall doesn't seem to be stopping it, although the firewall is STILL running. What could be the problem and how do i solve it?

I realize all that. At my previous home in peru i had a 32 or something mbps speed and it downloaded at about 30kbps!! so even if other people's computers are slow, it wouldnt download at 1kbps!! im downloading only 5 files (3mb each) and no ones uploading anything.

Also, i dont know about my connection but it says 100.00 Mbps

I'm only on 8MBps. Not fair.

The Internet has been slow recently. You've probably connected to a bad server. I use Azeuris myself, make sure you have an open NAT port (firewall not blocking it).

Azeuris is cool as it shows who you are connected to. If you have a good many Seeders then your download will pick up, just give it time. Some downloads start slow till you have uploaded some data, then they pick up. Some downloads start off ridiculously slow.

For this reason I tend to do one download at a time.

Make sure plenty of seeders when downloading and have a NAT port working. Sometimes a download will only go to say 75% because the Seeders will go offline (they have all the download now - bye) and you can only download all the data if there is someone sharing all the data.

The moral here is there are no morals.
But also that when downloading, don't bother if not many seeding.

Finally whilst you can upload/download at 100Mbps, others may only have 8Mbps (not necc through choice of). So you will be downloading at 8Mbps and uploading to them at 8Mbps because they cannot keep up.

The UK recently was running at 1% of your speed. Shows how fast it is getting and how behind we are.

Hi,
For a start your broadband will only be upto 8mbps, when moving your mouse over your task bar connection icon it reads 100mbps because its detecting the speed between your pc and your router. To find out your actual connection speed you can either view your router details or there are many progs on the web that will detect your speed.
As most other posts have mentioned p2p sharing depends on others upload speed settings and also how many people are seeding the file(s). If however all the files you download are downloading at 1kbps then check your settings. DO NOT DISABLE YOUR FIREWALL, Limewire is full of rubbish files and very prone to viruses etc. Your firewall should not affect your downloading only uploading. Feel free to contact me if you reqyire anymore help.

i am a anti-limewire user, but it does have its good points, but what worries me is the average user who uses limewire dosent care so much about internet security, well thats what i have seen in my experience
i would first do a scan for spyware,as this can slow down your speeds, and a virus scan wouldnt go a miss aswell
re-check your limewire settings and if needed, uninstall your limewire and re-install it,but before you re-install it,try downloading a file from a demo site like nvidia and check your download speed, this will rule out a modem router problem, and after a re-install try a different file from the one you are trying to download, and if everything is ok try the original file again, now if this is still 1kbps then it must be 1)a very busy file(1000 downloaders) 2) a corrupt file
from a trusted source i was told to beware of any files that were less than a megabyte,or were very slow to download,
this problem just seems a bit strange to me,and i would not recommend downloading this file, but have a go at what i ahve said and see what happens
good luck

limewire is a peer to peer network you can only download as fast as the others can upload the file, i guess its a strsnge file with only a couple of users, try downloading something popular, if that is still slow you got a problem. How have you got 100mbps connection anyway, must be on a network that will share that among all the users so you won't ever be allowed the full bandwidth.

To begin with I dont think you are capable of downloading at 100 mbps unless you are paying a few grand a month for a t3 connection but, your problem may be due to the fact that the persons computer you are downloading from is using up his bandwidth doing other things on the net! You are aware of the fact that your downloads are coming from other members systems I hope!

Download speeds on p2p programs and file share programs are not always fast, the speed you get depends on the limit of the person you are downloading from, so it's not your computer that decides the speed of the connection. There are ways to make sure it is maximsed, such as not downloading too much at once etc. But other than that nothing.
Also don't copyright infringe, it is naughty.

My speed goes all the way up to 200 kbps.
I recommend that if you are using Limewire Basic, go to programs and type Limewire Pro and download the newest one. That way you will have turbo charged download speeds!

try turning the firewall off for a sec, and check if that affects it. also if you have a really old computer, everything goes slow on those things.
