My friend once told me to never place anything on top of my Bible otherwise, you'd be saying whatever's on top of it was more important.
Ever heard this?
Do you agree?

geskuh,
I think that it's like anything else. It's what's in it that counts. Including what you place on it and why.

There are many people and religions who venerate objects and people to a status not given by God. While God's word is important to learn and study, He is not the bible. He is a living being, who's words reside in a book that He gave us.
But He also told us to have no graven images of Him. Why? Because, nothing...in no way, shape, or form could encompass all of what He is, and to place anything, to give objects special meanings that we attribute to Him, is to lower Him to the level of that object.

You should have respect for the bible to a degree. The Bible is your way to Heaven so respect it but realize it's not the book that's important. It's the lesson you learn from the message.

We follow and worship the God of the Bible. We value the CONTENT of the Bible because it is His Word to us. But what we do not do is worship the Bible ( that's called bibliolotry-- which can take on a variety of forms). We sure don't worship the paper the book is printed on. Borders on the superstitious to do so, wouldn't you say?

Some people place too much emphasis on the material things. The Word is more than that book you hold in your hand. While you should not mistreat the Book (as a bibliophile, I would find treating ANY book harshly offensive), it is not magical and does not change your life unless you read it.

No. My Bible has been dropped, dusty, spends time in the sun, and is throurly read. Its a book, granted with the WOrd of God in it, but he gave it to us to use. My Bible is well used, and the words are in me, and THATS the real point of the Bible, not to put it on a shelf and honor it.

No that is something I don't neccesarily agree with. Although I do consider it important and sacred. I do not throw one around nor put a glass or anything on it. I do however stack prayer books and such together.

Very scary...Oh sacred, ha! Well my bible is under this coffee table righttttt...hmmmph...HERE! Yeah How sacred are you Mr. bible?

-Not any

Well there you have it. My bible doesn't speak proper English and I think it doesn't even think it's sacred if it even knows the meaning of the word.

Yes. That law shows up with regard to a Torah scroll, about 2nd century CE or earlier.

I've never heard that one, though most people I know treat it with respect. The important thing is that it's used.
