I am probably going to have to restore my system to factory settings due to virus and spyware issues. I am having trouble even getting the photos in the computer to burn on a cd. Any suggestions? Is the thing too far gone? It just wont cooperate at all.

You may try uploading your photos to various online email or file storage websites. One that allows you to ftp the files woujld be best. You will have to google for them. Then you can download them again after reformatting your computer. This will require broadband internet.

If you have a friend with an external hard drive, your could download them to that for the interim.

In the future, I highly recommend purchasing a 100 or so GB external hard drive for file storage. That will resolve the issue in the future.

Good luck.

Are you talking about Windows XP and using the restore feature?

Things you can do before performing the system restore is to empty your recycle bin, clean out the windows temp file, and defrag your hard drive. You know, do regular maintenance. If you have a wireless mouse, check the batteries too. If you don't have virus scanning software and spyway software, install that and run your scans. You might have to go so far as deleting giant files from your hard drive. I had one audio file on my system that used up one-twelfth of my C drive space. Really affected computer performance until it was deleted. If you do all that, you might not have to do a restore. Be careful to avoid overfilling the CD. One of my CD burner software packages wouldn't tell me how much in MB it was ready to put on the CD, which caused the writing to the CD to fail, but that particular software didn't tell me why it failed. Bought another CD burner software program, which eliminated the problem.

try going to www.symantec.com and do a security and online virus check. They also offer removals of virus/trojans. You might also try to download spybot s&d, run the scan and adaware. IT should at least help. Just remember to turn off your restore points and then run these scans, that way they should be removed and all records of them eliminated. If these things dont work try to back up all info you want to save then reboot and reformat your drive, and reload your OS and programs.
