I have cable in one room, and would like to have it in a second room as well. If I purchase a Cable Splitter and run a cord to the second tv, can I watch different channels on each tv simultaneously, or are both required to be watching the same channel?

If your cable comes out the wall and plugs into your TV, you can use a splitter and each set can tune in its own program independently. Be sure to get a splitter rated for cable TV and not for broadcast. They are different.

If your cable plugs into a box which you use to select channels, you may not be able to use a splitter at all, depending on how the box works. If the box is used only to get premium channels (like HBO or Showtime), you may be able to use a splitter on the cable BEFORE the box, and connect another TV. The second TV will not be able to get those premium channels, but will be able to tune in the others independently. If your cable box is needed to decode all the channels (like it is in digital cable), you will not be able to use a splitter at all.

It will allow different channels, it splits the signal which the tv's tuner chooses which channel of the signal to tune into.

theoretically, yes, but make sure you are really getting a splitter and not just a gadget that hooks up two cords....there is a difference
