does anyone know why the United States deny so many Mexicans who actually apply for citizenship?
I asked on Yahoo! Mexico but I didn't really get an answer...

Well the US obviously lets in lots of criminals (terrorists) who are from developing countries, but they seem to be getting in legally, why not with the Mexicans?
(i'm not trying to imply anything here. By the way... to all those who said they don't accept any legally because there are so many here who are illegal...wouldn't it make sense to try to get the illegal number to decrease by getting the legal number to increase?)

After 911 they deny a lot of people who apply. It happened before then but it is more than twice as hard to get the process completed now. You have to be sponsored now to enter the country legally. And there is a lot of paperwork and the person who sponsors has to take financial responsibility for the applicant. I have done it, it works but is not a quick and easy process. They are really not targeting Mexicans its just that that is one of the largest groups of applicants so they have more refused as well. The other group that is denied a lot is the British ...yes believe it or not....for the same reason a lot of applicants.

Because we have 20 million Mexicans here illegally already, and they take up the slots open to those who legally apply. End illegal immigration and then more will be allowed legally.

I'm guessing because we allready have about 20 Million here ILLEGALLY. Another reason might be that alot who apply arn't qualified to fill Skilled positions in areas where America needs Employees Such as the Computer field ect. They Attempt to fill the needs of businesses Legally through Visas. They probably try to fill those positions with the best qualified.

The United States denies citizenship to all kinds of people. The government decides how many people to let in, in a given year. Priority is given to those who will be able to contribute to society in the US. Unemployed peasant farmers will not be on anyone's priority list.

The US has quotas for immigration from each country. The people that the US allows to immigrate need to be able to prove they can support themselves.
The US doesn't open the border because we can't afford to import poverty on a massive scale. That's what the illegals are, and why so many people are opposed to them. They don't support themselves, they take more from the US economy then they contribute.

The US gives equal opportunities of citizenship to all nationals. due to the fact that most countries will send massive number of immigrants to the US, the chance of granting immigrant visas decreases and increases in regions that do not send as many immigrants annually..
examples of countries that send large number of immigrants per year.
- canada
- mexico
- UK
- China
- vietnam
etc

America has limited available slots for citizenship from any given country. Mexico's demand for US citizenship is the highest, far outreaching the amount of US Citizens we will accept from their country.

it could have something to do with the background. for example, if they have a criminal background in mexico, why would we want to give them citizenship here? how do you know this anyway? this whole immigrant thing is not fair. our ancestors had to follow certain rules and guidelines, why shouldn't everyone else?

There are many reasons. The US may have reached its limit for Mexican immigrants for the year is one reason. If they try again in another year, they may be allowed.
