take the pill and follow it down with a piece of toast with jam on it or something else you like . Breaking the pill defeats the purpose of the time release, you may get too much of the medication and once followed by none at all. Stick to the regimen of swallowing it whole. What can help is to take the pill with water close your mouth and pinch your nose closing the nostrils, you will swallow and then breathe through your throat. If you are really worried do it with someone else there to assist you if you are choking.

Get you a glass of water, a straw, and put the pill in your mouth. Put your chin down to your chest and swallow the water. The tongue should relax enough to swallow it when your head is flexed. Just keep drinking the water until it goes down. Don't break pills that aren't supposed to be broken. They are destroyed by the environment that they are supposed to pass. For instance, some have to get to the intestines but when you break them, the acid in the stomach will destroy it. Hope that helps.

If they are timed release you shouldn't break them. You swallow bigger things in your throat when you are eating so why are you having a hard time swallowing a small pill? It's all in your mind. Grow up and learn how to swallow.

I would not advise cutting down the pill yourself. You may want to ask your pharmacy if they can turn the pills into a liquid form, or if they have a substitute that is easier to swallow.

Only tablets that are scored on one side are OK to be broken, otherwise you may not get the active ingredients equally divided and it may affect the effectiveness of the medicine.
